Doesn't bother me, never had one round my way, at least not when I was living there. I've never even seen a Zavvi before.

As for Virgin Megastore, the Speccy was pushing up daisies by the time Newcastle got one of those :D

...and I'm surprised that's lasted as long as it did since HMV takes most of it's business away.

    You're in Ireland aren't you?

If so you should be OK, the article says Zavvi Ireland will be unaffected.

Yep. And a good thing too since they're my main source of DVDs.

Zavvi is gone, I was officially told this morning. We've been told to hold any orders for them, apparently they owe Entertainment UK ?100M.

    BHS next?

And what about Debenhams and WHSmith?

Pity about Zavvi I always used to get a couple of cheapo DVD's from there when I went into the city centre.

I haven't bought anything from Zavvi. If im in Glasgow i usually pop next door to HMV, which has a better selection.
I believe Comet could be the next casualty. I hear they're having financial diificulties, this is a really worrying time for retailers. It's never been this bad, even when we had the recession at the start of the 90's.

I believe the fall of Zavvi was a knock on from the fall of Woolworths. BHS will be fine though.
Thats correct, Entertainment UK was their main supplier.

My local Zavvi used to be a Virgin?

    It's certainly fucked now.

Probably should have gone in the sick joke thread.

I have to be honest and say that anybody who would come up with such a crap name for a company probably isnt fit to look after a company.

I mean Zavvi WTF does that mean, who would actually say out aloud "I'm going to Zavvi"

Soulds like the marketing people where allowed out without their straight jackets on, or it was a cocaine decision

You know something very similar crossed my mind the other day when I read this thread

I always substituted Zavvi with the word "savvy" ... it makes sense in my head at least ...

I doubt that I'll miss Zavvi -- unlike Virgin Megastores, they used one of those dumb fulfilment companies who suffer from the delusion that Maestro is the only valid debit card, despite the fact that Electron have the huge multinational Visa company behind them. :( This made it impossible for me to buy anything from Zavvi unless I paid cash (and of course I don't like to carry more cash than I need to carry), so I said "stuff them" and went to HMV instead. :p

I suspect this may have been a contributing factor in Zavvi's downfall.

Hmm, I didn't hear about Zavvi going into administration, but I did hear about the ?100M debt with EUK.

If it goes under I won't miss it. Virgin was going downhill before Zavvi took over and it didn't change at all after the change. Only bought a few things from there in the past few years. Saying that, I did get the Alfred Hitchcock box set there for less than ?20 two days before xmas. Not bad considering it usually sells for ?80-90
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

    That's probably all they're good for :D

Ever happened to chance into a Primark on a Saturday afternoon, there's more burberry on the shop floor than there is on the shelves

Indeed, by the sounds of things, our local Woolworths is reopening as a Primark and it's a MASSIVE store too. We have more than our fair share of chavs here, so at least they will all shoplift in the one place now rather than all over town :D
