Gta 4

I got GTA 4 as a christmas present for the PC but i've realised i'll have to upgrade my PC. The specs on the box says 1gig RAM needed. I have 2gig RAM which is DDR2 400 but the game runs really slow. It looks like everything is in slow motion and is almost unplayable. I'm assuming it's the memory so i guess i'll need to upgrade to something better like DDR2 800 or something.

No, memory can't be your problem since you have double the requirement. It's most likely your graphics card. Also, you need to make sure you have enough free hard drive space.

My graphics card is a Geforce 8600GT. I haven't had problems with any other games. I only got it last July.

There has been loads of complaints about the PC version - primarily the minimum specs giving nothing more than a slideshow.

I'd be very surprised if it was your memory so the first place I would look is the GFX card. You can get a Nvidia 8600GT for less than 50 quid and they're pretty good, but if you can afford it go for a 8800.

The other thing you've not mentioned is the processor speed you have currently. Memory and GFX card seem fine, but what about the rest?

To be honest i didn't fit the processor, that's my brothers department. I'm not really clued up on that but i do know it's a Pentium D inside.

I have an 8800GT, a quad core processor and 4Gb of RAM and I can still only run the game on medium settings!

Yeah, my mate has got the mentallist PC ever and it doesn't run at anything like full speed on that either...He's a bit miffed 'coz that was one of the reasons he upgraded his PC...wanted to play it at it's best..

It's been a real problem with it, so I suggest you try another new-ish game and see how that runs. Might be nothing wrong with your computer...

One thing that's come back to me that a guy at work mentioned - something to do with the draw distance being by default ridiculously high. He may well have been talking about something else but it won't hurt to take a look at that setting.

I've been on various forums and been reading reviews and it seems that everyone is having the same problem (slow framerate). My PC is well within the minimum specs but when i set them to the lowest possible setting it didn't change a thing. Another problem with the game was having to install Rockstar social club AND windows Live. This also failed for me so i played it offline and found i couldn't save the game! Absolutely ridculous. The controls were awful as well. I've decided to give up and uninstall the game as i'm disgusted with it.
This for me, is the end of the GTA franchise. I'm not buying another GTA game again.
    Sorry, rant over!

Y'see....this is why I stick to console gaming!

They have severely messed up with the PC version tho...and even if they fix it, you PC guys won't get any new DLC until next year, what with it being Xbox exclusive....

You could try turning off the video editor. That increased the performance on my PC.

Tried turning the settings down to the absolute minimum but made no difference. When i get a chance at the weekend i'll try and download a patch. If this dosen't help i'm afraid that's it!
