70's space film with Jim Bob?

edited February 2009 in Chit chat
Can anyone remember the name of the space film with Jim Bob from the Waltons? I think it might have been an early 80's space film with Hanibal from the A Team also starring.

Thanks.

Quite a terribly entertaining film, but not a patch on Starcrash, possibly the best sci-fi film ever made :D

More so than Torpedoes filled with men smashing though the windows of a spacestation, with no repercussions of the vacuum of space?

    No classic lines like:

"By sunrise tomorrow, the universe will be mine!" (while on a spacestation in the middle of nowhere)

    "HALT THE FLOW OF TIME!!!"

    And my all time favourite:

"If I told you the future, you'd try to change it, and that's against the law, so I shall tell you nothing."

Come on!!! Starcrash all the way! And don't forget, it has the Hoff in it too!

Is this the film with the (massively titted) Vakyrie (where's rubberkeys)?

If so, I think it's the one where the microphone keeps on dipping in and out at the top of the scenes - especially where the aliens in that whited out room scene are.

Thanks for that guys! Awesome film. Watching it right now.

Maybe you can help me with another film that I remember. I remember giant domes on a space ship and it was meant to be like a bio ship with plants growing in the domes.

There were robots cultivating and it ended up with just one guy in a funny coloured suit running around the ship.

Can't remember any more than that. Same sort of era I think.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

And a female lead who considers it perfectly normal to explore unknown alien planets wearing stillettos and a PVC bikini...

I could have sworn I mentioned this before, but at last summer's Shucon demo party, we all spent most of the last day on an epic project to re-dub Starcrash into Czech. Unfortunately the only girl willing to take part had to leave half way through the day, so for the second half of the film Stella Star was voiced by a succession of guys speaking in falsetto. And yet it still felt entirely in keeping with the spirit of the original movie...

That would be Silent Running, starring Bruce Dern, directed by Douglas Trumbull.

    I know!

The thing is, if you walk away from the film thinking that Davil Hasselhoff put in a good performance, you know the film has to be shit (but still utterly the best sci-fi film ever!).

No, it was Silent Running, but Saturn 3 is another classic sci-fi film.

Does anyone remember a film with a few young lads that make a ship and blast off into space and meet aliens? The ship was made of bits and pieces and looked like it was made in a junk yard.

Also if anyone has got any suggestions for sci-fi films to get hold of. I just got The Black Hole, Krull and Critters.

    Thanks!

The made-for-TV movie Timestalkers ... I love to hate this movie ... ( it's actually not all that bad, really).

    Enemy Mine.
    The Last Starfighter.
2019: After the Fall of New york.
    Zone Troopers.
    Android (quality Blade runner rip-off).
    Starship Troopers.
    Space Raiders.
Invaders from Mars (the 80's remake, it's terrible, but in an amusing way).
    The Abyss.
    Inseminoid (really, really bad movie).
    Eliminators.
Robot Jox (it's shite but in a funny way).
    Arena (same as Robot Jox).

Er.....that should satisfy your sci-fi and cheese requirements :D

If I think of any more.....

I've also heard it's pants ... they go beaming from one place to another ... apparently "to beam" someone means that they get a protocol droid "forced" (that "force" mile mentioned) up their exhaust port, whatever that means, or something. Then there is this old guy who dies and comes back and then another old guy dies from being green and he doesn't come back until sometime later when they had figured out how to use computers and 3D programs those slackers. Buyer Beware!

Ok. I have another film for people. See if they can remember this one.

I remember a black woman as the star role in the film. Everyone was on a massive ship in space rather like the QE2. Everyone was on holiday when suddenly they got attacked or something went wrong. Anyways every one got into escape pods and jettisoned out.

Now the film centres on just the few characters in one pod (with the black woman). She is in charge and an engineer who is a dwarf, tries to take care of the pod.

Thats about all I can remember.

Anyone know what this film is called?

    Thanks all!

Sounds like this remake of the Hitchcock original.

Hehe....Battle Beyond The Stars...All I could remember about that was the Valkyrie and Robert Vaughn...and some bit where they're all flying through a rocky canyon or something...quality!

Another film to watch is John Capenter's Dark Star....I watched it for the first time not that long ago and found it....odd....

Especially that precursor-to-the-Killer-Tomatoes of an alien....

    To add to the list:

    - Plan 9 From Outer Space - possibly the worst film ever made, but entertaining all the same for all the wrong reasons

    - Tron

    - Quatermass and the Pit (1967 film version)

    - Lifeforce - naked zombie vampires from outer space destroy London. What more could you want?
