Were you ever able to make any use of the map in Fred?

Not very useful, in my opinion. The map showed in the screen is only a part of the whole map.

    Hi,

Fred has a special algorith to make different maps. It is very interesting. Fred has a special version (faster, more bullet, med kit, score bug correction, etc.) but unfortunately it has no space on WoS by copyright. Maybe one time ...

    Errr,

is there anywhere it does have space as Fred was one of my favourite games for a very long time (never quite managed to complete it though, until the advent of emulators)

Are we all talking about Fred?

If so I was able to make some use out of the map while playing it, but it was only ever a quarter of the map that you got and more often than not I was in the wrong place to make use of it.

Didn't really help that much though.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

The game instructions state: "A map is displayed when Fred discovers one in the maze. Fred is in the
centre." Yet, I was never able to locate myself (i.e. Fred) on the map.

It's a scroll of paper (or papyrus probably). Looks like a sheet of paper that's curled at the top and bottom. I think that's the one anyway.

I never knew that Fred was meant to be in the middle of the "wee map" though. Maybe I was reading it wrong after all these years

I remember the wee map being stationary though. So maybe the center of the map is where you pick it up (and technically Fred will be in the center until you move him).

I might have a go at it later and see if I can find it.
