How Long!

edited February 2009 in Emulators
Hi

Been playing around with FUSE today and loading some .tap .tzx files using the built in tape function.

I know I can load them straight in but like playing with the tape function, sad maybe but I enjoy it.

Thought I would load the adventure The Golden Apple, it has been so far loading for over an hour, did
we really used to wait this long for games to load ?

    Obviously not. The tape wasn't physically that long.

    Try LOAD"" CODE instead.

    Phil's right (had to happen one day :p *). I've just checked, and Golden Apple has no BASIC loader, for some reason, so you have to use:

    LOAD "" CODE

    (and you might have to restart the virtual cassette deck in the emulator, if it doesn't start loading when you enter LOAD "" CODE).

    It shouldn't take long, only a couple of minutes as it's not a long program, then when it's down you might want to snapshot it (save it as a .z80 or .sna file) then you won't have to load it via LOAD "" CODE, you can just load the snapshot anytime, though you'll lose the cassette loading effect that way.

    Regarding loading times, I think that the longest loader on the Spectrum was Daley Thompson's Supertest 128K, which was about fifteen to twenty minutes!

    * I shouldn't joke - I've never been right about anything yet :(
