Hidden Features In Games

edited December 2009 in Games
I'm sure there was a thread like this somewhere - sorry, but I can't find it.

Hidden stuff in games.

In "Mikie" there is a hidden bonus in each of the class-rooms.

E.G. On the 1st screen if you stand in front of the teacher's desk, facing the 'blackboard' and 'shout' 3 times - you get a gobblin and a score!

Can you find all the others?

2 hours is hardly long enough to expect a few replies, especially on a Friday evening when hardly anybody is posting.
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...

I seem to recall a speaker on the left giving a bonus if you could avoid the pissed-up dancers :p

I was a fan of the arcade game so knew about the secrets before your speccy version was released so I was pleasantly surprised they were included. Great conversion although I would have preferred the "head-butt" version.

I didn't know about the 'Head-Butt' version until years afterwards - and officially a few years ago via MAME.

I still can't play the damn thing!

Why Konami changed it to shouting for the European market I don?t know. It just makes more sense to head-butt to knock out the teacher and other characters - a feature sadly missing from the speccy version

Well I guess it was to do with politics. A game in the WEST - floating around kissing a girlfriend - better the 'shout' than the 'head-butt'!

Don't get me wrong here - but in order to get the big Konami titles off the ground (Hyper Sports and Green Beret et al) we, at Ocean had to do their cack titles too! Like "Ping Pong", and I managed to rope in such talent like Martin Galway off his C64 for a few hours to make the Speccy sing! Often not my project!

Games like Ping Pong and to a lesser extent Mikie were probably viewed as minority interest but they were great games to play both in the arcades and on the speccy so I'm glad you had to do them.

Dougie told me you did most of the programming on Ping Pong to help your less talented mate out.

    ;-)

I hope Duggs is not reading this!!!

The only one I can think of is the infinite lives cheat in 3 Weeks In Paradise and I found it by complete fluke.

I was doing really well and got killed by one of the natives. In anger I smashed the keyboard and the game "beeped" at me. I carried on and got knocked down again but my lives stayed the same. I went on to complete it and phoned Mikro-Gen to say I had done so.

According to the nice lady I was the second person to have phoned in to say I'd finished it.

I actually quite like 'Ping Pong'. Theres a bug in level 4 which means you can win the game quite easily. I played it last week and still like it. Not sure about the crowd though - are they laughing at you when you miss a shout or are they clapping?

I remember reading somewhere that it was possible to start the car for a joyride in one of the levels in Vendetta. Never done this myself tho' - Just don't like the game enough to bother trying...

Looking again tho' it wasn't that hidden as the instructions tell you that up is accelerate! Ithink I just had a blast at this game and wrote it off as a sub-renegade sort of game.

I dunno if it's a cheat or not, but I accidentally found out years ago that in Mugsy, if you type "12345678910" in response to the "how many do we buy from the syndicate this year?" question, you recieve a shedload of customers and dosh!!

I thought that you drove the car inbetween levels anyway...!!??

I thought Vendetta was alright, but picking things up was always a bit fiddley....

Hows about the "ghost car" (well that's what me and my mates called it) in Ghostbusters? Was that a hidden feature or just a bug?
  • edited February 2009
I think the Ghostcar was a bug. I've played it to death I've never noticed anything like that.

It happens if you choose "0" when selecting your vehicle (as opposed to options 1-4).

    EDIT: Here it is:

Elite - if you save as soon as the game loads you find yourself docked at a world where the sun is going nova and some people need rescuing. you also get all the weapons and $$$$$ . The other hidden feature if you hyperspace seconds before docking you get dumped in witchspace with a bunch of thargoids.

I've just remembered something. Duggs was working at home, in Liverpool, and came back to Manchester and left his development kit on the train! It took him ages to get it back and didn't want the bosses to know - I think it ended up in Strathclyde!

I had a big go at him for not taking care of his equipment - and he got dead upset and had a big go at me. Then he pulled a Speccy 128k out of his bag, and it was covered in chocolate!

no that would dock you at your target system, to get to witchspace you had to pause while hyperspacing then press a certain key

Look ... this is a half-finished story, or at least the start of ensuing jovial hilarity.

What happened to one and the other, the chocolate and Speccy???
