Best iphone killers

In your opinion, which phones are gonna actually take the fight to the iphone?

From what I've heard of the rumour mill the following have the potential:
* The upcoming N97 has impressive specs:

* There is a rumour that the Zune might have a phone version. The Zune HD itself sounds like an ipod touch killer so the phone version may not be that far off.

* The Garmin Nuvifone looks very interesting indeed but the lack of third party apps may be a show-stopper.

* I thought the HTC Touch Diamond has some impressive features and it's probably a lot better phone than the iphone which, interestingly enough, isn't much of a phone at all. It however didn't turn out to be the iphone killer.

Which one do you think is impressive?

My wife has a Blackberry which basically does everything the i-Phone does and more.
    Every night is curry night!

I'm very happy with the Nokia 1208. No camera, no media player, no fancy games; just a phone with a two week battery life.

For the gadget lovers though, the HTC Touch phones certainly tick all the boxes; they just don't have Apple levels of hype behind them, and nothing with Windows Mobile will ever pass as fashionable.

The other issue with the Windows Mobile phone seems to be the response of the UI - it's just not as smooth as the iphone interface for example. And this is a complaint I've heard from even HTC Touch users.

Interestingly, HTC Touch and others are true phones with media capabilities while iPhone is basically a media device with phone capabilities - tells you where everyone is coming from to the party!

I'm very very curious to how MS would bring Zune phone (if rumours are true) to the table considering that did they a good job with Zune vis-a-vis the ipod on the features front. Indeed, one of my friends claims the Zune is actually better than the ipod, which I find hard to believe! I haven't used one (zune that is) so can't say firsthand if that has any bit of truth to it.

Never been into phones much, always had a pay as you talk as i dont use them often.

Finally got a decent phone a few months ago, must admit i do lots of travelling now to see customers and when i get there early its cool to use the phone.

Having the net/email on the phone is cool, put on a lot of films/tv shows to watch as well. Play Repton/Tetris a fair bit but despite lots of other games on it without a proper controller i dont enjoy it so much.

Refuse to have crappy ringtones on it though, i do dislike those ! But must admit useful as anything if i get somewhere early, can keep myself occupied with the phone.

That's a positive for me. I don't like phones, and never had one. Well I got a few hand-me-downs from the wife who loves phones, but I would never use them. I like the iPhone though. I use the web, e-mail, games, music player and maybe even the GPS much more than the actual phone, but it is handy having the phone functionality too.

What's going to beat it? It won't be easy. The Apple monoculture has benefited them with this device in a way that it never did with computers. Developing apps that work on the iPhone and iPod touch is straightforward, and the App Store means that individuals can have a go without worrying about handling transactions and hosting issues.

Some of the Windows Mobile interfaces are impressive, but they are all layered on top of the base OS by the phone vendors, so they are all different. Writing software that targets many differing phones, versus a horde of identical phones - which is preferable? I think the volume of apps shifted at the App Store points to the answer. Perhaps a Zune phone has a chance, but the Zune brand didn't really take off - a case of too little, too late I think. Google are trying too, but with little apparent success so far.

An iPhone killer can't be a little better than the iPhone. It has to be leaps and bounds better, and I don't see anyone making such a device.

I've used Win Mo devices ever since I saw a sega megadrive emulator running on the Orange E200.....back in 2000, 3 touchscreen, The HTC magician being the latest - AKA imate Jamin.....and the samsung blackjack finally finished off WinMo for me

haven't used anything else till I obtained the Iphone 3G

For me, the almost flawless internet browsing, the FUL SCREEN phone (try dialling on a MS phone where the buttons take only 1/3rd of the screen) is what does it for me........

the only reason I'd consider upgrading........if they had one with an OLED screen!
