.XML Infoseek search plugin for FF?
Found an old thread explaining how to add Sinclair Infoseek to Firefox's search box, but the new FF doesn't detect .SRC plugins, only .XML. Can someone please post the .XML equivalent of the following code?
Once I have the .XML file it's just a matter of copying it to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins and restarting FF.
I know about the Speccy search bar, but I was never too fond of toolbars. The top-right FF search box is an exception.
Thanks.

queryEncoding="utf-8"
queryCharset="utf-8">

copy it to a text file named WOS.xml, that's all.
you can add an image to it by using a base64 converter, if nobody does, I'll add one soon.
I'm guessing it will be something like this:
I didn't try that but possibly it won't work. Here is the code that works:
or you can get it here:
http://www.veanewmedia.com/ardae/fish/WOS.xml
Now click "Add" and in the dialog that appears, enter the following fields:
And then click "Okay" and close the options page with the close button at the bottom-right.
Now, in Chrome's address bar, type "wos" followed by your query, ie:
"wos Cybernoid" will jump to Infoseek's search page for all games and materials with "Cybernoid" in the title.
EDIT
You can also search the forums directly from Chrome's address bar (which is better than doing Site:www.worldofspectrum.org/forums in Google) by adding this data in the same manner as above:
You can also modify the search behaviour by using this guide and editing the URL field above. Now, searching in Chrome for "wosf BASin" will pull all results about the best Speccy IDE in the world.

Is this the actual icon/pic? If so, how can I read up on how to interpret it?
It's the FavIcon. You know, the little icon at the very top left of the window, next to the title? It's been encoded in Base64 so that it can be represented as text.

I thought as much ... though I didn't know it for a fact.
Thanks, this is pretty cool to know ... but that's just me
*Digs in, learns about Base64*
I updated the search plugin to match open search 1.1 specification and added it to firefox addon database for easy installation. Note that it's uses mozSearch extensions. it now return results with images and inlays turned on.
and I made this thread is the official support page of the plug-in in the "addons for mozilla" website.
I also uploaded it to WOS via upload form, I don't know if it's a good way to post a search plugin.
I had to choose a license, I used MIT, as I remember it's the most relaxed form for a license.
It would be perfect if InputEncoding was set to iso-8859-1 rather than utf-8 though (as that's what Infoseek uses). This would allow accented characters to be used in the search query.
it's done. Encoding is now iso-8859-1.

this was a great move.
i used to use the one on mycroft project
but this one is way better!!!
but... what code can i insert on my website so that visitors can always add the latest version of search engine but having to go to mozilla?
Thanks!
All we need now is the same thing for Chrome. :)
On my brand new Core-i7 860 with 8Gb RAM and 2 23" monitors, both Chrome, Firefox and (he he) IE8 (I think!) are running very smoothly indeed.
ah it's easy for chrome,
1.Click on "Wrench"
2.Select "options"
3.in "Basic" tab, there is a section named "Default search", Click "Manage"
4.search engines window opens, click "Add"
5.Fill the boxes with these information: 6.click OK
7.if you want, you can make it default. This is not recommended...
8.Click "Close" button
9.Result: Now "zx" is your keyword into infoseek. eg. if you type "zx jonathan smith" you'll send a query to infoseek engine.
Have fun.
if you want to search from your opensearch capable browser (eg. firefox), here is the wos forums open search plug-in:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wos-forums/
note: if you want to search infoseek engine instead, use other one, it's approves long ago.
