Bespoke arcade cocktail table - comments?

edited June 2009 in Games
Sorry of this is in the wrong section, but I want a bit of advice.

I am considering treating myself to a bespoke arcade table for my 40th.

Apparently it can take speccie Roms when the time comes - I just wondered if you guys have knowledge or experience of them at all?:-)

    check out www.aussiearcade.com.au

    and www.byoac.com

generally speaking, these things are PC's in fancy cabinets.........

the 'spectrum rom'.....ability is most likley just adding a speccy emulator.........or, Mess - the mame / computer emulator thingy

if you've even some slightly technical knowledge you'd be far better off buying a JAMMA based cabinet and a 1000 in 1 type board.......then add emulators, etc
the 1000 in 1's run a (dodgy) copy of windows 2000, or sometimes even XP

What are the prices of these ? I bet theyre sky high ! I've seen the one in Selfridges in Manchester, yeah its superb but its something like 1800 qud i think it was. Think its a bit of a con. I bought a bartop (Which is the top half of a proper arcade cabinet if you can imagine) from Boyo (Chris Wilkins) who built it for me, hes the guy who organises the Retro Ball type of events. You can see a cocktail cabinet hes made here... http://www.gamingv.co.uk/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=54&func=view&catid=8&id=117 Could always email him to see if he'll make one for you. Hes got a cocktail cabinet on ebay at the moment 500 quid starting price, 750 buy it now. The ones on this website do look good but i couldnt see any prices, i bet theyre over 1000 easily ! Its a bit of a con as all it is is a half decent PC inside some MDF. The arcade controls are very good, the proper buttons/joystick etc. Mine has MAME inside it so obviously i've got 4000+ games to play, its in the startup but i can simply shut it down and run the other emulators instead like the Speccy one. But saying 'it can take Speccy roms...' , i think they all practically can as most are just PC's inside. http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/ are very good but I think they often get Boyo to make some of the cabs for them. Bespoke Arcades will do a fantastic job but you'll be able to find ones MUCH cheaper. Arrgh i dont know whats happened, i cant seem to add any paragraph breaks !!!
