The difference there is the quantity. If you have that much milk in your tea, you're doing it very wrong. :P
hehe, it's the quantity that's coming into contact with it at a time that's the issue here.
Slowly pouring hot tea into milk doesn't heat the milk rapidly as slowly pouring milk into hot tea.
I'm not going to argue about it any further, it's very well documented and double blind tests have disproved all the "oh it makes no difference, you can't possibly tell" nonsense.
Make tea how you like, but I *know* that it tastes better to me with the milk in the cup first. :)
As I understand the folklore, milk goes in the cup first, then tea from an urn, because the old earthenware mugs provided for the use of workhouse employees would crack if near boiling tea was poured in. It's supposedly the whole origin of milk in tea - at the time, there was no safe-to-drink supply of cold water. It has nothing to do with the taste of the milk, but even then the tea is brewed separately in boiling water.
Putting a teabag and milk in a mug, then adding boiling water is, frankly, modern rubbish. Although some people just like weak tea, or rely on the poor infusion so as to re-use the teabag.
But once the water has cooled down a little from boiling, there's not much in it either way. So it only makes a difference when it's actual boiling water mixing with milk, not already-brewed tea or coffee.

Well traditionally Tea should not even have milk in it....It's only us westerners that started that up.
If you make a cup of coffee and the phone rings should you put the milk in before answering the call or after if you want the coffee to be hottest when you get back?

I once joined a forum about Tea (for a laugh) called teachat.com..the site is still going. I posted a
'omg teh tea noobs!..you don't know your earl grey from your oolong' type post......someone 'pwned' me though by posting a teabagging photo.
Those people are nuts, threads about which thermometer to use for correct heating of the water, PH testing water, does the varnish on porcelain alter the taste of the tea and if so which brand of 'cup' gives the best taste etc....
...all this crap about making the perfect cuppa and then you go and spoil it by dunking a digestive biscuit in it!

Well put the milk in first...isn't there the thing that something hot will loose it's temperature quicker than something cooler in relation to the ambient temperature of the environment due to convection?
....or you could just put it in the microwave when you get back like I said :)
Well, I don't have milk in either my tea or coffee. I gave up putting it in about 2 years ago and haven't had it since.
What really gets on my norks are those weirdos that put the milk in the cup when the bag is still in there though....blurgh! weakest pissiest cup of tea ever...
When I used to have coffee with milk, milk always went in last - the way it should.
So my general theme was : milk always last and AFTER the bag had been strained and removed.
Why the fuck does it really matter, coffee is better when somebody else makes it for you, to your specifications.
Really though Why does it matter who gives a massive flying septic monkey bollock, milk in first milk in last fuck me it's coffee.
FUCKING DEAL WITH IT!!!!!
Everybody makes it slightly differently!
Just like everyone makes chips differently!
Or everyone likes different fucking sandwiches!!!!
Jeeeeeeeeeez!
It's gone too far too much detail for something that doesn't deserve it!
rant over......get a grip freaks :D
Hehe...that was kind of my point posting this...
I did say that it was a pointless argument. There is no right or wrong way...I just wanted to see if people would go to the same lengths on here to defend their way of doing it as they do in my family.....
Right...next question...should there be an apostrophe in the word "Photo's"....
I dont drink hot drinks but for years as a kid having to make them for my parents its always hot water first and then milk.
But to do it the other way who cares ? Instant coffee with boiling water and then milk doesnt taste any different to instant coffee with milk first, and then boiling water !

When my mum or my brother makes the coffee, I can tell which one did it because I can actually taste the difference. And I don't like milk-in-first.
The question I have, is does the shot of Grand Marnier go in before or after the milk?
