Divide 57c and CF Card Problem

edited June 2009 in Hardware
Hi all

I'm using Divide 57c on a Spectrum +3, with an Integral 1gb compact flash card. When the NMI button is pressed on the Divide interface, it lists files that are on the cf card, but pressing the ENTER key results in the machine not going into 48k BASIC, so I can't type LOAD "" to load the game?!

This is the second cf card that has done this, and it's driving me nuts! Integral cards are suppose to be compatable!

If I type from dos shell:

Chkdsk H:

The cf card is displayed at FAT and has no errors, so what's the problem? Can it be fixed?

Help please, as I don't want to go and buy another cf card for it to do the same again!

My other integral cf card I never reformatted, and yet that seems to work fine by the way!

Maybe it's karma due to flagging every thread you start with the "important" icon.

A few people have asked similar questions. See if these topics help:

I don't want to sound like Philip Kendall, but I must say it's always a good idea to search the forums before you ask the question. A lot of times you'll find the answer and a new topic won't be needed. At least that's what I do. :)

If you search the forums for "DivIDE problem" you'll get even more results. ;)

Yeps, did that before I plugged in.

I did indeed search the forums, but none of the topics solved my problem. It seems formatting the card by clicking under xp within My Computer and selecting 'Format' then 'FAT' didn't work, as fatware refused to select any tap files on my card when ENTER key was pressed.

but alas, formatting the card under DOS strangely worked

    Format H: /FS:FAT

    That odd

Thanks for help anyhow. I'm new around here, and still learning my way around, so imporant icon next to my postings I won't use anymore if it bothers ppl :)

Thread now can be closed :)

It doesn't bother people, it bothers one person. :p

Thanks for letting us know how you fixed it.

    Other ideas:

    - Your CF is not 100 % compatible. Some CF don't work well if we try to used it like hard disk.
    - Divide not give VCC to CF adapter. Do you make any fix?
    - Do your CF adapter allow to select the VCC for CF?. Some CF work better if we put it with +3.3V instead +5V.

    Bye

Some new CF cards is formatted as FAT16 without MBR(master boot record) sector. This card will work on PC, but FATWARE need CF with MBR only.

For fix it you can use ZX-FDISK utility on real ZX: http://velesoft.speccy.cz/zx/divide/divide-soft.htm
After create and save new MBR sector insert CF card to PC and format as FAT (FAT16).

Hold on a second. Whatever you think about how he says it, Philip usually has a valid point. I prefer his well-founded criticism to the ever-increasing amount of offensiveness from other posters.

Philip always has a valid point. But since this was the first time I implied that forums should be searched first, it felt weird. :(
