Alternative histories, conspiracies and suchlike...

Anyone else like reading stuff like this?

My personal favourites are: -

Alternative Bible Theories

I'm not a religious person, but I do like to read stuff about Jesus surviving the crucifixion, or that Jesus was switched out and never crucified at all. Or that he was actually married to Mary Magdelene and his bloodline survives to this day.

Knights Templar

A staple for anyone that likes to read about mysteries and mysterious sects/organisations etc. It's a good topic because it also branches into Freemasonry, The Illuminati and Rennes-le-Chateaux. It even links into alternative theories of Jesus.

Oak Island

There is a very deep pit on an island off the East coast of Canada called Oak Island that is man-made. Despite going down into it for hundreds of feet and returning many odd artefacts from it, nobody can accurately explain why it is there. Periodically the pit floods, but noone can trace the source of the flooding waters. It is often rumoured that it is the hiding place of the Holy Grail, or the hiding place of the lost treasure of the Cathars.

Like a lot of things, you have to keep an open mind to appreciate some of the points. You also sometimes have to filter out a lot of cack as well. But I do like these things were you read them and then think "Hmmmm...it could have happened like that..." or "Weird! I'd love to go and have a looky for myself".

There are loads more of these that I could mention, but I just wanted to see if anyone else shared this interesting pastime...

So, does anyone else partake? And if so, what??

the russians did some very, very deep drilling years ago, they got as far as they possibly could, but heard all these wierd noises, they filtered the sounds, and they were of people screaming.

of course it has been covered up now.

Neil armstrong doesn't sign autographs. why? because when he left earth he was right handed, and when he returned he was left handed. there was a period of 20 mins when he was on the moon and out of contact with buzz aldrin.

NASA spread the rumour of the moon landing to be fake, just to stop people asking this question.

Any linkage on this? Sounds very interesting...

I enjoyed 'The Da Vinci code' and 'Angels and Demons' which mention some interesting theories, but here's some of the stuff I dislike:

-The American Goverment brought down the Twin Towers
-Giant skeleton found in the desert (in the end they found out it was photoshopped)
-The sounds from Hell (some organizations even played the recording to remind people of how Hell 'is'. The whole thing was created by one guy here in the U.S.)
    -New order
    -Aliens among us

And here are some of the things that usually interest me:

    -Bermuda Triangle
    -Mysteries regarding old civilizations
    -Lost cities, islands and continents

All 3 interest me as well.

As for the Dan Brown books, I haven't read them (although I've seen the film). I prefer the stuff it is based on like "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and "Messianic Legacy" TBH.

Anyone done any big reading on the "Hollow moon" theory? That's one that I sometimes think "what a load of..." but then read about lots of leading scientists disagreeing with each other about it.

There was a show on this on either Discovery or History(a couple years back) ... and then an ex of mine, who is heavily into these sort of things, actually has a book about this.

    The greatest thing 'ever'. Happened.

If you deny this, I might get angry. My fist is big. And will smack you.

Don't piss on genius. You will lose and get wet everytime. Everytime. Hard!

We walked with the Gods, and it was dust.

I hereby deny the existence of said fist, which supposedly is big.

And therefore there shall be no "smacking" taking place.

But was there dust involved? Why, yes, of course.

Although not conspiracy theory or anything (although there have been arguments about the cause), I did for a long time read all about Centralia.

    http://www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/centralia.htm

I do plan to go visit it one day. Must be eerie.

frobush has stated it's bollocks, no-one else has made a statement as to whether the stories are true or false, therefore he has to back up his statement with fact.

There was no question of right and wrong, true or false, bullshit or errrrrrrr anti-bullshit(?).

I only wanted to know if anyone read this kind of stuff out of interest.

No doubt we have some religious people on here. They cannot prove their god exists, but I wouldn't stand there and tell them their beliefs are bullshit!

(just in case they aren't and I'm fooked when I cark it! :-) )

It's ok to believe crazy stuff steam...I have an interest in Alternative history (not the crazy stuff though haha)...what would have happened if the USA had not entered ww2...or if Russia had gone on and taken Europe etc.

Bollocks though can be applied to anything without the need for back up purposes...that's the beauty of the word. If they had had it more in the bible fewer people would question it.

...In the beginning was the word...

    Steam...do you like Cornish Pasties?

Yep, Centralia fascinates me too. There were still a few residents living there the last I heard, not sure about now though. A similar story of an abandoned town is that of Prypiat in Ukraine, although that was abandoned for completely different reasons....

Oh yes... I do wanna go visit there too, but until I can afford it, the closest I've gonna come to being there is by playing Call of Duty 4 :D
