Looking for Vaggelis Kapartzianis (ZX-32)

edited August 2009 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
Is anyone still in contact with Vaggelis Kapartzianis of ZX-32 fame?
Since Geocities will pack up and leave later this year, I'd like to offer hosting his site on this server, but the listed e-mail address is no longer valid...

    Maybe it's him ???

I used to be in regular contact with him and the last I heard about him was that he was having to do his military service and was unsure if he would continue the development of the emulator after he finished. It was my fav emulator for quite a while, defecting to SPIN only last year.

I'd archive the site offline until he could be reached..

I haven't heard anything about Vaggelis since he wrote the score to "Chariots Of Fire".

I think it's him ... at least it looks like the same guy from that other pic a few years back (also found somewhere here in the forum).

Hi guys, thanks for remembering zx32 and me after all those years.

Most people don't know about it but back then, besides obvious things, I spent, for example, weeks counting T-states and taking into account memory cache and video performance, just to optimize the code that created and blitted the Spectrum screen bitmaps. So I have to apologize for trying to let zx32 just fade into the sunset, but I couldn't keep up with that level of commitment and I wouldn't do it any other way.

Regarding Geocities closing down, people did let me know the moment it was announced. So I've already registered zx32.org and I plan to upgrade to Yahoo! web hosting, for a few months at least, and redirect geocities.com/zx32home to zx32.org so that search engines pick up the move. And I may take up Martijn's offer eventually.

Glad to talk to you all again, and thanks one more time :)

PS. I'm that guy on Blogger and I'm on facebook.com/vkapartzianis too

Welcome! A lot's happened since the days of ZX32, so have a poke around the scene :)

Great to see you here Vaggelis. ZX32 was my emulator of choice for many years and it always worked really well. :)

Same here. I used ZX32 for a long time and even exchanged e-mails with you a couple times, sent you feedback, etc. Welcome back!

After the silly comment comes the serious one - ZX32 was a great little emulator that I used when I returned to the Spectrum at the beginning of the decade. Great to see that you're here :)

I'm sure I went the extra mile and did some of those registry tweaks suggested in zx32's docs. Enabling drive B: might've been one of them :)

    Hi Vaggelis,

You did the great job with that ZX32 emulator.

Have a nice time here, at WOS.

ZX32 was my emulator of choice for a long time. Pity you can't get it for the Apple Mac..

I did the very first edition of my Frontier of Warriors game on GAC using ZX32..

BTW - if you were to do an update of it, I'd borrow my niece's laptop to use it - mine's gone off to be repaired again.

Hi guys, thanks for remembering zx32 and me after all those years.too

Hello mate, and thanks for such a great emulator. ZX32 was not my first choice of emulator, to be honest, as I always prefered DOS to Windows (X128 was always my prefered emulator), but I always installed ZX32 on my PCs too, for quick checking of downloaded files (rather than opening a DOS box for X128 ), and I always installed ZX32 when anyone wanted a Spectrum emulator on their PC, as it was so much easier for a beginner to use than a DOS program like X128.

For the time it's accuracy was amazing, it ran a lot of display intensive demos, and it's ease of use and configurability was excellent too. And it ran at full speed on a relatively low spec. PC, amazing for a Windows program.

All in all, a great emulator, and a great gift for the Spectrum emulation scene in the early years. Welcome to WOS!

Karingal moves slowly all the time, especially in supermarkets.

Γειά σου Βαγγέλης, nice to know you are still around!
I still use ZX32 most of the time, and have been testing Buzzsaw in it, as well as in ZXSPIN. I always wished it could make another joypad button operate keys on the keyboard though, for playing R-Type!
