It's just not cricket

edited August 2009 in Games
Having just watched the ashes, well done England, I couldn't think of any cricket games for the speccy other than Ian Bothams:-o I just wasn't into cricket that much when I was younger so never really looked out for any.

There must be more...any good ones I should try?

And let's not forget Graham Gooch's Test Cricket. ;) I think it was written in BASIC or something.

CRL's Test Match and International Cricket definitely are written in BASIC. Still, they were decent enough games for when they came out, even if time hasn't been that kind to them.

I'd have to say that I've never seen a totally convincing cricket game on any format. They either tend to be overly simplistic reaction tests or dreary, drawn out statistics bashers. I'd have thought it would have been possible to do a decent Cricket game on the Wii, with motion controls in the manner of the better Tennis and Golf games, but sadly the two efforts I've seen so far have been rather underwhelming.

I'd say that International Cricket is part BASIC, part machine code. Part BASIC, because if the batter and bowler's names are too long, you get the "scroll?" message come up. Part machine code because of the funky intro tune, so there might be other m/c routines called here and there.

In most of these cases wouldn't you be better off with a pen, paper and a die for playing silly cricket games?

the problem with cricket games - as I summarised on Gaming verdict (http://www.gamingv.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=120:howzat&catid=36:news&Itemid=50) is that batting is generally quite fun whilst bowling and fielding is a bit dull. Bit like the real game really haha.
