animated GIF question

edited August 2009 in Chit chat
After trying a couple of different GIF animators (currently using Ulead's free program), I haven't been able to work out how to do what I want, which seems fairly simple, and is:

frame 1 - pause 2 seconds -
frame 2 - pause 2 seconds -
frame 3 - pause 2 seconds -
repeat ...

I can get an inter-frame pause with a transition, but each transition's an extra image and I don't want the transition effect anyway. I haven't been able to work out how to get the frame 3->1 pause at all, as the Transition's screen doesn't allow a destination to be specified when the source is the final frame; it just allows Matte as destination, which doesn't do what I want. Then there's the Delay setting on Ulead's main screen, which seems only to produce a pause on frame 1 before starting each repetition of the cycle, and so that doesn't affect the inter-frame pauses.

So what's the solution, if there is one?

you don't need a transition you should be able to set the time delay for each image.

Mind you I've no experience with U-Leads program. I use Jasc Animation Studio 3. It as old as the hills but allows me to do what I need.

    Is this what you want?

If so, it was fairly straightforward using GIMP.

Yes, that's the sort of thing, thanks. I should have asked here first instead of spending hours trawling around for software and not finding what I wanted. It seemed improbable that the animated GIF format would not support that, but none of the programs I tried provided all of the necessary options.

I've done Ulead's GIF Animator an injustice. It does do what I want; I just couldn't see for looking.

    Ta Da!
