Crazy stuff you've seen out and about

edited August 2009 in Chit chat
The thunder and lightening, and Scotties Mexico thread inspired me to post up one of the amusing things I saw on my travels.

I spotted a place called Bean's Diner, I think it was in O,P,P an equally amusing town name. I saw it on the way to Florida, and was determined to get a pic of it. Unfortunately we had a 10 hour drive home so on the way back there was rain and traffic and I had to take a pic out the window while we were moving cos' the wife couldn't stop. Alas the pic was crap, so I just deleted it :(

But this is a corker, just shows how crazy some of them Southern folk are.

I took this just outside of Birmingham AL.

and this maybe in Florala, if not somewhere in one of the small towns between there and Montgomery AL. Just the sign on the side amused me, appealed to the teenager in me I guess :D

This I found quite amusing and I took it at West Palm Beach FL Last year, it was at the end of the missus' friends street where we were staying. I just think it's funny because to me it says Slow Children as in a bit slow, not go slow because there's children playing in the area. Especially because of the dolly dimple looking kid on the pic with the stupid Noddy hat on.

lol...suprised they're allowed to use the betty boop logo thought that would have been copyrighted to death, anyway...

-not something I photographed but apparntly there was a camping equipment shop in Hull ( I think) and the placard for their December sale said "Now Is The Winter Of Our Discount Tents", something like that

I thought these Polish signs in Cheshire were unusual.

    Another funny one I found:-
    _44118825_penguins_sign.jpg

Now the last thing you want to do is drive all the way home with a flattened penguin going around one of the wheels - it really does screw up the fuel mileage!

There's a sandwich shop just down the road from me called 'Goodfillas'. Even uses the same font from the Goodfellas movie title on the lettering too.

There used to be a sarnie shop not too far from me called Scooby Snax, had a badly hand painted Scooby Doo on the sign. I have no idea if it's still there, I think it used to be called the Tuck Inn which had an equally bad pic of Friar Tuck on the sign (Of course these could be 2 sarnie shops near me, as I'm sure the Tuck in is still open???).

One of my faves that I wish I had a photo of was the spraypainted thing on the little road out the back of Newcastle College, that said "NeWCASeTl aRE SHiT".

and if only I could get the pics off my old phone, got some hilarious crap on there.

I think the oddest thing I ever saw was in Stockholm last year... a man taking his cat for a walk. That's right, a cat on a lead.

There was this weird middle aged guy used to do that up by the school every day, now that I'm older I wonder if he had ulterior motives?

Or if infact he was just a harmless nutjob?

What an odd street name, almost as bad as one here it's spelled Boeke, but pronounced Bakey?

I was just wondering if it was cos' Americans are dumb and can't pronounce it properly, but everybody here says that so I guess they were actually right about something for a change :D

Sorry, should have been "Bevois" - French influence I suppose. There's also a "Prideaux-Brune Avenue" in Gosport. I'm guessing they're named after someone with those surnames who owned a bit of land or did something of note nearby. The name might go back a long way, so the pronounciation would have been anglicised by illiterate yokels. In your case it sounds Dutch, maybe via Serth Ifrica.

When i worked for Directory Enquiries i was asked for some wierd (but true) places. There's a pub in Lincolnshire called 'My father's moustache'. A shoe shop in London called 'R soles' and a chip shop called 'The Codfather!'. There was also a hairdressers called 'Blo Job' but that vanished after a few weeks!

Errr ... nothing wrong with that ... I do the same thing. I have indoor cats and do take them out for walks, while yes, on a leash. One cat a time though.
