I've killed my computer.
I killed my computer yesterday :(
Worst part about it deep down inside I knew what would happen but pushed the button anyways and now the thing is riddled with virusus and nasties.
I have one of these Zoostorm computers that you don't get a windows reinstall disc with, instead its hidden away in a partition you access from a reinstall menu when you turn the pooter on, however that too has been infected and dosent work.
To make thing worse I went and downloaded smitfraudfixtool, which aparently is also the wrong one and just does even more nastieness.
Programs were dropping left and right, I think I've saved most of the important stuff to a dvd... but I'll need to scan that as and when I get sorted :(
I think I'll have to buy a copy of Windows XP as I hate Vista with a passion... and I'm not speaking to McAfee Anti 2009 any more...
Pretty pants weekend in all.
Ho hum

Then boot the screwed PC from it and run the scans.
If you don't have a bootable CD on your PC there is a method to make a memory stick bootable with this system so long as your BIOS supports that kinda thing, but CD is easier.
/Edit...
If you have your screwed PC connected to the internet when it boots the CD will do an update to the latest AV database.

/Edit2...
Drive by download? Your computer is infected. Click here to fix the problem?
Slap your wrists.

If it's any consolation you're not the first and you won't be the last, and AVG allowed a client of mine to do exactly the above - and AVG wouldn't remove the rootkit that got installed :(
Had to do the boot scan thing.

is that what you do with your (censored)
Why 'buy' ? The PC should have a valid COA sticker on it, you just need someone to lend you a CD.
And, do you know what it was thats got onto the PC? you may be able to clean it up without resorting to nuking

unless the current windows license is not for XP...
also the CD has to be the right type too, otherwise the key verification will fail.
Cheers for that - will try
Sadly hermits don't have friends with copies of vista... and I hate vista and want to go back to XP... and I have another computer thats going in a mame cab that needs an OS so it would be nice to actually have a windows disc... Oh, and I hate vista.
Sadly I have no idea what go on it. All I know is each time I set the computer to an earlier backup everythings fine, then programs will start shutting down and be deleted from the computer... firefox, then IE, then whatever else I want to use!
Gggrrr...
