Spanish screens are original and unique. No titles, nice art, semi-adult themes... But something is always missing in spanish loading screens. Use of bright maybe? I mean, no use of bright. In general, they look flat, too much magenta and cyan (maybe they are converted from cga). Anyone knows who is "j.cubedo" or "lopez"? Maybe they can give us some pointers about those graphics.
Can't beat Atic Atac - nicely balanced screen , with effective looking chains. Bright and colourful without being OTT , has the name of the game, the publisher , and gives the player a simple synopsis of the action to come. Winner
That's a running theme I approve of ... I'm guilty of it myself, 'nuff said ;)
That Thorpe bloke is a genius. There was a feature on him in "On The Cover" in CRASH, just can't be arsed to dig it up because I don't remember which issue it was in, but it also showed some drawn art - a old cottage house or something with foliage. Looked awesome. I wonder what he's up to these days?
Last I saw him would have been about 20 years ago, and he must have been around 50 years old then. So he must be retired at least. I don't know what he did for a day job (freelance artist maybe?), I don't think he did his loading screens full time though.
He only really came into the Ocean offices to pick up photocopies of (usually) Wakelin's artwork.
Oh, and he did a few graphics too! He did the hunchback in "Hunchback 2" and the motorbike in "Street Hawk" (the Crash edition, as it is wrongly known), and all the graphics for the other "Street Hawk" (the top down thing). He also did the cityscape on level one of "Kong Strikes Back".
Ocean also did a demo animation thing for some Channel 4 computer show ("4 COMPUTER BUFFS") where he did all the background graphics.

Some quality screen$ there! Not heard of some of the games, will have to give them a whirl! No doubt they're the usual stunningly presented but hard as nails Spanish games, eh? Ah well, always had a soft spot for Dinamic games, can't believe I persevered with so many of them!
What was the clue in the Fairlight loading screen? I can't find mention of it!

The view is looking down onto the starting courtyard from the highest tower in the castle - the one where the wizard you're looking for is imprisoned. Note that the raven is held captive by a chain on its leg (although the wizard isn't really captive - he turns out to be an evil shade when you give him the Book of Light). But that view is fairly accurate as far as the game map goes.

I always liked the box art and that's a decent rendition of it.
This loading pic always reminded me of Ian Livingstones offering in the FF gamebook Freeway fighter.

Absolutely! But what a difference in quality.
This is one of my faves.
"LOADING PLEASE WAIT"
has to be the ultimate (no pun intended) classic and best, afterall it dont take up 6912 bytes of loading time and it does what it says on the box!
ner ner :-P
(just kiddin really, the Atic Atac screen was quite awesome back in the day)
:-o

Secret room in the castle
It's more to do with the room where that view is seen from
No way... that's the Nitro box art (Atari ST/Amiga)... never knew that!

Cool... there's a few on there I didn't realise he did. Does anyone know if he is still AWOL (as the blurb on that page suggests)?
