A question about Survival

Hi,

Just wondering - am I the only person who loved the Speccy game - Survival?

I had more than one go at being a fly, I must admit.

I assume you're talking about the Macmillan game. I found it pretty intriguing as a kid but never gave it my full attention.

    I think you are !

The first day i got my Speccy with VU-3d, Survival and other cack i did load them all up and mess about with them as it was exciting as hell to have all these games.

Seconds later when i tried Sabre Wulf, Jet Pac, Manic Miner, i dont think i ever touched Survival again !

I thought Survival was a nice idea and played it quite a bit. It's just that the implementation was a bit lacklustre, although not nearly as bad as most "educational" software of the time. It was more on a par with, say, Viking Raiders or Battlecars for my money. That is a game that could be great fun once you'd gotten over the iffy presentation.

One thing that irked me about it was, whilst playing the Lion, you'd die instantly if you attacked a human. OK, I suppose your time would be short in reality if you did that, but most likely should be from a horde of hunters converging upon you, and you might yet have a chance to slip away.

I love the game, hired it from the local video-rental place and played it all week. Was so glad when I finally bought my own copy. I still think it's good, and it's one that deserved improving upon. In fact, before starting Beekeeper, I was considering doing something like it.

    Maybe in another lifetime...

I liked Survival. I remember, one day, picking one of the middle-ranking creatures (not the fly, but not the lion either) and embarking on a massive, very cautious game, staying well clear of humans. My creature died of old age.

I mentally catalogued that as having completed the game, and I don't think I played it again :)

Obviously it lacked pizazz compared to my usual fare of Atic Atac, but I found it compelling. Maybe it's because it gave me the vague hope I could program a game one day.
