BBC4 Drama - about Sir Clive etc!!!

edited October 2009 in Announcements
I'm sure some of you have already picked up on this, but a new Drama about the Sinclair brand is being shown on BBC4 on the 8th October - called 'The Micro Men'.

I've seen a few clips and it looks quite interesting and I think it's a light hearted look at Sir Clive and some obscure machines called ZX80, ZX81 and ZX Spectrum...never heard of 'em ;)

Anyway just thought I'd let you know.

There's this catchy little song as well called 'Hey Hey 16K'...

...have you been living in a cave?

I wonder how many more threads we can clock up on Micro Men/Syntax Era before Thursday?

Fatboy - Cheers but as you can tell from the responses theres been various threads over in Chit chat !

To be fair you did the right thing putting it in Announcements but theres been a few threads over in Chit Chat which i'm sure you know is one of the most active parts of the forum

Should be good, looking forward to the 80's one, should bring back a ton of memories

Thanks for letting me know ... I'm one of those oblivious ones who actually was unaware of the other threads.

When do they get round to showing the family in the 80s? I'm sick of just coming across repeat after repeat of the 70s one.

Arses. It'll be just my luck if they don't now repeat the living shit out of it. And my iPlayer feed on the Wii is deliberately slowed by BT, too, because I won't pay for their crappy IPTV bundle.

Arrrggh! My DVD recorder has just died, if anyone records this tonight, then would somebody be so kind as to get in touch via PM, and I'll send you a blank dvd+retrun postage, and some extra free blank dvd's for the trouble.

    Thanks !

Watching it now (as I suppose many of you are)

There are some classic bits in it - Uncle Clive saying how all people know about the Spectrum is Jet Set F**king Willy!!!

Quite a harsh interpretation on our lovely Clive.

What an excellent programme, really enjoyed it.

Some genuine LOL moments in there too...

It was great fun, but some very obvious factual errors that even I noticed... or was I just being pedantic through the televisual programme?

    Regards,

    Shaun.

That build your own science of cambridge computer actually came from someone who went into the science of cambridge offices with an adapted sinclair calculator, from what i remember reading it wasn't a Chris Curry idea.

But i really enjoyed the programme.

I liked it - was affectionate, but inaccurate in some details.

I'm fuming about "Designing The Decades" which names Alan Sugar as the leader in UK computers, glossing over Sinclair completely other than mentioning he was bought out by Amstrad and that he did the C5. For a programme about design to skip over the Sinclair computers completely in favour of the Amstrad word processors is astonishing.

Interesting that people are finding it inaccurate - I thought they'd done a surprisingly good job of that, right down to details like the screen flicker on the ZX80. I was half expecting to be wincing at mistakes every two minutes, which is usually what happens when the media covers things you have personal knowledge of. (Some of those computers at the 1981 microfair seemed a bit out of place though - was that a CPC I saw, or was I just imagining it?)

I did spot someone on Twitter fuming about the blatant discrimination of not portraying Sophie Wilson's role at Acorn. Um, there's something you need to know...

The good thing was, they weren't glaringly obvious errors that spoilt the drama/comedy. Although Clive got his knighthood before Jet Set Willy was released...

Transgenderism (is that even a word?) in the computer industry seems to be a common thing.

I wonder how Sophie feels about being portrayed as such a geek, then?
