i need three of these stones to cure my vampire thing, i only have one, so getting another two without having to piss around, it would help.
Think this is the method I was using...as I say it was working 2-3 months ago with the expansions and patch of the time....if they have patched since just unstall from the HD, reinstall and don't update.
(Several other scroll dupe videos says it's still working)
That's similar to the old dupe trick... but instead of scrolls, you used arrows. I've not tried the scrolls though, might use that to get all them dang nirnroot thingys!!
Right, well I'm bored with GTA IV, I'm probably never going to finish it, I can't afford any new games, and so I've started Oblivion AGAIN!
I'm doing things different this time. I'm playing with all the expansion packs, I will never set foot Kvatch and so trigger the main storyline, so I will probably never see an Oblivion gate. )
I have chosen as my main character a Breton, with the magic boosts, born under the sign of the Antronach - that means I cannot re-charge magic the usual way, a bit like when you contract the diesase Astral Vapors from a Zombie bite, but have to make potions or use other means to do it.
I decided that I had to chose a pre-set class, and so I chose Healer, no major combat skills.
I cannot take advantage of any anomalies in the game, such as taking things that are not really mine and then selling them. Nor can I do repeatedly perform tasks to boost my skills, and auto attempt lockpicking is out too.
When I rank up, I always choose Intelligence, Endurance, Willpower - until I cannot do them any further, . I'm playing "in character" with a set of principals that my character would believe in, kinda like a Chaotic-Good alignment in D&D speak. So I can't join the Dark Brotherhood. But I could join the Theives Guild.
I've joined the Mages Guild, as my character is very magic based, so I won't join the Fighters Guild. Fast travel is out, it's not allowed I have to walk everywhere!
Whilst I save it, if my character dies even once, that is it, game over! I shall wipe the file, and start over.
My wonderful wife bought me an XBox 360 for my birthday last week.
I practically raced out of the house to buy a copy of Oblivion.
I've been waiting about a year and a half to get an XBox 360 and a copy of Oblivion. Now I've played the game for six hours, lifted the siege of Kvatch and delivered the dead Emperor's unknown son (aka Sean Bean) to Cloud Fort Castle place. On my 42 inch, full HD telly, with big earphones on and the sound turned up nice and loud, the game is amazing. Very immersive. I felt distinctly unnerved exploring the Blood Feast tower in Oblivion late last night. Very atmospheric! :)
Scouring the tinternet I've picked up some good tips, like the fact that the game can be installed to the XBox 360 hard-drive (got 60gb hd), so I'll be doing that when I get home tonight to cut down on the immense whirring sound the game makes on my xbox when played from disc.
Just one question - if you complete the main quest, is it still possible to then complete all of the guild quests (e.g. Fighter's Guild, Thieves Guild etc) and the Dark Brotherhood quests? I'm wondering what order to do the quests in. At the minute, I'm thinking main quest first, then all the individual guild quests, guild by guild, then the dark brotherhood quests, with some random side quests thrown in for a bit of variety. I'm just a little concerned that the completion of the main quest series might close off some of the others.

You'll also notice a big improvement in loading times :-)

Yes, no worries, the game will continue as normal after the main quest has been completed, so you can carry on doing the other quests.
Before completing the main quest though, you may want to get some sigil stones from inside the Oblivion gates - they are very useful and can give powerful enchantments to weapons/armour (near to the end of the main quest all the oblivion gates are closed).
One more thing - after the attack on the monastery by the red-cloaked dudes that killed the emperor, I used the quick travel option on the map screen to travel with Jauffre and Sean Bean from the monastery to Cloud Ruler temple. This despite the fact that I hadn't been to cloud ruler temple yet in the game. I thought you could only quick travel to places you had already visited on foot.
I feel as if I've robbed myself of a bit of the experience by quick travelling from the monastery to cloud ruler temple, because I travelled from Imperial City to Kvatch on foot before this and had quite an exciting time, strolling through the woods under the stars, fighting off bandits, imps and wolves. Almost got killed twice by bandits. It certainly made me feel like I'd achieved something when I arrived in one piece in Kvatch, something I certainly didn't feel when I quick travelled from the monastery to cloud ruler temple.
So I don't think I'll use the quick travel option any more. Now I think about it, I think I've got a save game from just before I left the monastery, so I might load it up and travel to Cloud Ruler Temple using the road with Jauffree and Sharpe along for company. It's nice to see the scenery changing and the different things there are to see along the way. I think I'll enjoy the game a lot more if I play it like this.
...I think I'll enjoy the game a lot more if I play it like this.
You're a brave, brave man!!
But I know what you mean though... TES 3: Morrowind didn't have a fast travel option (it did have other forms of transport, but each journey would usually still require a fair bit of travel on foot), and although it obviously made the game a lot more time-consuming, it gave you this sense of embarking on an epic voyage every time you set off for another town.
Just be sure to pick any flowers/mushrooms you see lying around... they'll come in handy, alchemy is a good way of making money when you start off.

Yes, I picked up 3 nimroots running around outside the Imperial City. How much gold can I get for a nimroot? Can I make anything good using a nimroot?

I don't think you can make anything particularly special with nirnroot but, without telling you too much, don't use or sell them just yet... you'll need all the nirnroot you can gather for a quest later on. At the start of the game, just gather simple ingredients like apples, potatos, tomatoes etc., get yourself some alchemy apparatus (you can pick it up for free if you join the Mages Guild), make loads of simple restore fatigue potions, and sell them to a Mages Guild merchant. You can make a lot of dough doing this, and as your alchemy skill increases fairly rapidly, the potions you make become stronger and are worth more as you progress.
I've picked up a book about the basics of alchemy on my travels, so I'll have to give that a read soon.
No more Oblivion for me for a while. I'm off to Paris for five nights. Will use my Ipod touch and the hotel wifi to check WOS forums while I'm away. No oblivion for five days! Just when I'm getting going with the Dark Brotherhood! (I've completed two hits.)I feel like a junkie in need of his fix!
I'm going to have to rely on my copy of Joe Abercrombie's Before They Are Hanged for my fantasy fix while travelling. :D*
If you are not going to fast travel, I'd recommend you take a few invisibility potions with you, and maybe some water walking potions. Good way to get out of trouble quick is disappear, or leg it across water.
Nirnroot's make great poisions, but if you hang onto them, there is a side quest involving them. If you download the Vile Lair expansion and unlock it all, you can very, very, very slowly collect extra nirnroots from it. I believe 100 is the number for side quest completion, though I've never actually got around to completing it.

I think that's right... I read somewhere (probably on UESP.net that you only need something like a third of all nirnroot in the game to complete the quest. I found a whole bunch of them just walking along the coast of Niben Bay, I'm sure if you just walked along each coast you'd find loads.
SPOILER ALERT! (DON'T WANT TO SPOIL THIS FOR ANY OTHER OBLIVION PLAYERS WHO MIGHT STUMBLE UPON IT)

Forgot to say that, on one of my missions for the black brotherhood, I went down to the Imperial City waterfront and went for a kip on the Bloated Float, with interesting repercussions... :D
What I used to like to do is get a few good paralyzing poisons, then beat victims almost to death with my hands, and then revive them with healing spells.

I've been making some paralyze poisons too... I usually use them with arrows, from a distance, while my frost atronach does his thang!!
Just had a kip on the Bloated Float... interesting, never knew about that!!
If your acrobatics skill is high enough you can jump out of cities, I've managed it with Anvil and Bravil so far! Jump on to the roofs, then on to the city walls then over.
Because you haven't exited the city normally (ie through a gate), the outside area hasn't been loaded in, it still thinks you're in the city. It's a weird surreal landscape, with the ground missing in a lot of places and no creatures about. The gate back into the city is missing, but you can always fast travel back to normality.
I don't know if any of my spec-chums are familiar with the gamefaqs website, but over the years I've found it to be a repository for all sorts of useful information on tons of games on a number of different platforms:
The Oblivion section is pretty informative, with several complete walkthroughs, guides for all sorts of things in the game and maps of all the major cities/towns:
I'd use the information sparingly though, to avoid ruining the game. I only look at a walkthrough if I'm really stuck on a quest and even then I'll only read the little bit that refers to my particular problem. Used incorrectly, it's spoiler central! :) *

Yeah....I've used gamefaqs for years too! Always handy in a sticky situation, and like yerself I just use it to find my way past a particularly annoying sticking point......
Used the Elder Scroll pages as well....also a fine fountain of knowledge!!
Well, last night I got to the part where deadpan666 made his video, but the glitch didn't happen for me... I'm gonna try returning there again after a few days have passed in the game, see what happens (I imagine the bodies will still be there...).
While doing the mission though, I found a bunch of trinkets that all reflect damage (2 rings and 1 amulet)... together with my Escutcheon Of Chorrol, I'm now reflecting damage at something like 75%, which is nice. I'm just letting most enemies attack me now (thus killing themselves), then fixing my armour to get my armourer skill up. Happy days!! :-)

It sounds like that makes the game pretty easy. Is this now the case or do certain things still provide a challenge?

It does make fighting most enemies a lot easier... but then the enemies really do get so much tougher as you level up that you (well, I) could do with the help. I've just reached level 20, and I'm starting to see spider daedra (tough) and storm atronachs (reeeeeaaally tough) all over the place.
It all depends on how difficult you find the game, I guess. Most people I know sailed through the Kvatch siege first time without any problems, whereas it took me ages to get through that bit!!

Doesn't work on ninroots...first thing I tried :)
you could just pay to download the Deepscorn hollow expansion.

Bah...only one of them is ready for viewing.....I'll post the other ones later! Pretty freaky though, eh!?!?
