WANTED: ZX Spectrum 48k

edited November 2009 in Wanted
Hi, I'm looking for a ZX Spectrum 48k. I am looking for a basic system with a Kempston Interface. Everything else I can find here in America. Yes, even a power supply.

Like I said, I am in America. Shipping will probably be a good portion of the cost. Thus, if there are any American/Canadian Spectrum enthusiasts that want to sell, that would be the best. But I will probably end up getting it from the British Isles, but I want to get shipping down before I finish the deal. If you are in the US, I will pay with a USPS Postal Money Order. If you are from any other country, I will pay with Paypal.

Just remember, you will need a US power supply (you can use most multi-voltage adaptors), and a TV that supports PAL UHF RF.

I'm getting a step up converter and I'm going to mod the Spectrum for composite. I have a TV that does 50Hz, and can easily buy a PAL-NTSC video converter.

The Speccy has no composite output though (unless you mod it; I know it's easy for the ZX81 but I don't know if the colour creates problems), so you will need something that can receive analogue UHF TV signals (America uses VHF, so you'd have to have a TV that's designed for both the US and Europe, or some form of external tuner).

Ah, so it is as easy to mod as the ZXX81 :)

Yep, and that's what I'm going to do as soon as I get it. :-)

Cheaper to buy an off the shelf power supply from radio shack, that's what I did and have been using it for years. (will save A LOT) on shipping too without the PSU)

How did you manage to do that? Please, explain in detail. If I can buy a Spectrum without a PSU and save money, it would be awesome.

Oh, and apparently USPS Postal Money Orders aren't accepted in the UK. I guess I'll pay with Paypal if the seller is in the UK.

Timex uses a very average looking plug directly into the wall adapter..Like this one for the Timex Sinclair Printer (Alphacom 32). I have 2 for the Timex 1000...one with the printer and one without, and a similar one for the TS2068

Not much luck with eBay, all the auctions I've stumbled across are pretty bad, a lot of people don't ship outside the UK. Everything else is perfect, but they don't ship to America. I found a courier, hopefully I can convince people to use it.

...But I might as well bump the thread here.
