RTD has stated that it's for "children and adults" and that he sees the audience as very wide-ranging and tries to keep them all happy (he's even pretty-much on-record as saying he hasn't targetted it at sci-fi fans specifically). So of course it's for you, the same as it's for ten year olds with toy daleks and teenage girls who fancy David Tennant.
If I watch and find it is crap (I will sit on the fence) can I beat you to pulp and never watch or hear or read any of your recommendations again?
I'm only joking!
I won't be watching it. So I can't comment on it. It isn't aimed me (I've actually done some research here and I should watch it to see if all the things that I have read are valid etc - but I just don't want to).
Okay, I'll watch it. But I refuse to comment on it.

Like I said, RTD regards it as being a show that tries to please everyone but, to be honest, there are those who aren't going to like it for that very reason (and a lot of the more "hardcore" Who fans seem to despise the stuff that's be brought in to appeal to a broader audience but a lot of them are just a bit odd). It's also not a very, erm, serious show for want of a better term. Even though it sometimes deals with quite dark material it's also happy to have villains who look like they've stepped out of a pantomime (even though they actually kill people and stuff) and the tone of the show varies wildly (as an example if you can watch "Partners in Crime" and then "The Waters of Mars"; hard to credit it's the same show).
Out of all the new stuff I've seen (I was never a Dr Who fan anyway - crap stories, acting, fx, production values in the old stuff etc) the only one I liked was the one that didn't feature The Doctor much. Can't remember what it was called but had a fit chick and statues that came after you when you turned your back on them - like the Ghosts in Super Mario Whatever.
I'll do a quick search, but if I can't find the name of it in less then 2 minutes I'll give in.
"Blink" has been widely recognised as an exceptional episode of Doctor Who. Writer Steven Moffat was awarded the 2008 BAFTA Craft and BAFTA Cymru awards for Best Writer for his work on this episode.
It also won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, and Carey Mulligan received the Constellation Award for Best Female Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episode.
The episode was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Script, but lost to Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro.
This episode also received the award for Best Story in the Doctor Who Magazine 2007 Survey.
Human Nature (a two-parter set in a boarding school just before WWI) can have most older burly men in tears in its last few minutes - it's even tougher than that ending to Blackadder Goes Forth. Then this latest series with Catherine Tate has really pushed the boat out with making it deathly serious, to counter any accusations that she was unsuitable. But it looks like it's taken a step back, which is a real shame.
Nice Oody preview scene shown on Children In Need just now - will be on YouTube soon enough no doubt. It sets the scene quite nicely - Ood civilization has progressed faster than is possible, and the Doctor cannot believe who is behind that.
I like McCoy as well. A very underated Dr if you ask me...
The main problem with the McCoy era Dr Who is that the BBC just lost interest in it and he was let down by some very poor stories and huge budget cuts. Just compare one of his early stories (say, Rememberence of the Darleks) with one of the last ones (Ghost Light/Survival) and see the difference. I feel that McCoy is being made a scapegoat really as I really liked him!
Rememberance of the Daleks/Silver Nemesis/Battlefield/Delta and the Bannermen are my favourites of that era..
Also placing his stories against Coronation Street didn't help either.

I watched Battlefield last night and I really quite enjoyed it. I like the way they gave the Dr a new air of mystique in that he will sometimes bump into things from his future. The current run have only really touched on that subject once or twice and it's something that I thought was rather interesting.
