New nostalgic Advent Calendar launched - complete with chocolates!

edited December 2009 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
The countdown has ended, and December has begun. Later on this month will see the release of the documentary Christmas Special, but right now I want to give ZXmas a jump start with the launch of my brand new Advent Calendar!

Each day there's a page full of festive Speccy memories from my own Speccy Christmases, together with Vox Pops from players in the Speccy scene both past and present where they share their own memories.

I've also raided YouTube for old television and other clips, and there's a rather eclectic mix of clips in the Advent Calendar as a result.

And to round things off, there are also free Virtual Advent Calendar Chocolates - completely genuine cheap tacky synthetic chocolates that most Advent Calendars had when I grew up, and these have the added bonus of being completely fat-free!

I hope you enjoy this ocean of nostalgia to wallow in, and keep an eye out for the documentary Christmas Special later this month!

Loved the first one, will be checking this every day! I've had a crap morning - kids being pests, *****ing drivers cutting me up etc so this was a nice boost. Never really did get into Robocop, maybe I should give it another go.

But what we really want to know is... do you bite into your Advent Calendar chocolate, or do you eat it up in one go?

They're brilliant, aren't they? The perfect way to start December.

My LEGO Pirate Advent Calendar gave me - a pirate! Arrrr!
I also have a bar of JD Gross 70% cocoa Ecuadorian chocolate (yup, from Lidl) on standby.

It normally gets liberated by the kids!

Sadly, only 23 - no entry for the 25th.

Not planned right now, anyway, but things can change.

Do real Advent Calendars have a door for 25 these days? Never had those in the Advent Calendars I grew up with - I would be overjoyed if the 24th door was a double door, because that looked kinda cool for a kid :)

    Ta :)

The good news is that the writing gets better (and longer, and probably more personal) the further into the month we get. The first ten days or so just set the scene.

Ewww... I just hacked in and got a sneak preview.

December 24th: I remember the day my first [censored] grew on my [censored]. It was the day after I first [censored]. I couldn't believe it! I used ALL the tissue. Oh, and I got a speccy game too.

    Nick, this is absolutely BRILLIANT!!
I'm loving the reviews and the Youtube clips :?) I especially enjoyed the adverts on todays window! I find that I am looking forward to these. I realise that I am thinking and wondering what each day will have and what clips there will be.
I REALLY apreciate the time and effort that you have put into this.

    Nice one, mate :)

That's precisely what I was aiming for :)

There's some weird and wonderful stuff still to come... the second half is better than the first IMHO.

That sounds terrible! In my day, most youngsters wanted to be opening presents on the 25th.

Lazy advent calendar makers wanting to make square selection areas easier? 5x5 compartments rather than 4x6?

Really enjoying this, Nick. The splash page for your calendar is now established as one of my default browser tabs!!

Now that I know there's at least one other Spectrum loving Pet Shop Boys fan out there, how's this for a festive treat - 'It doesn't often snow at Christmas', released on 14 December. Just think, if enough people bought this, we could avoid it becoming yet another Xfactormas (other religions are available)...

That's better than the current song they have out, which samples the Nutcracker Suite.

Most of the advent calenders had a 'double choclate' for the 24th and that was it. I still find it strange coming to WOS days later and people have been posting on the 25th !

Do like to have a few days away from the net/forums over Xmas

Getting online is less of a task these days, thanks to wifi plus netbooks and the like. My netbook rarely leaves my settee arm when I'm in the living room. My previous netbook (original Asus 7") could fit into my coat pocket, and the Nokia 770 internet tablet was a true handheld.

I can definitely think of a treat for the 25th though - and no, it's not the Xmas Special...

Dont get me wrong its so easy to do it but i dont know, i love computers/internet but i like having some time away from it, i'm not religious or that (lets not start !) but when i'm seeing my folks i like to just get away from it all.

My missus constantly checks facebook for stupid updates and other social tools, always say to her just to let it go for a few hours ! Forget the imaginery cows on Farmville and have a break from it all !

I would never take a computer on holiday again just to have a rest from staring at a screen non stop

Actually they're both from the same EP. I didn't like that one so much either when I first heard it, but it's really grown on me since.

[Edit] Just realised my next post will be my 500th!

Another brilliant window today, Nick. I LOVE those Youtube clips !!

Nearly finished the calendar - just four more pages to assemble now.

Getting the Special done before Xmas might be tricky...

Bloody techno-junkie. I still use my 4G! I have a pair of trousers with a pocket big enough to fit it in - it's great for airport check-in. No separate laptop bag in the allowance, you say? Not a problem...

It also got me onto my brother's wireless internet when we spent last Christmas at his place. Religious family - don't have a TV licence. Dr Who Christmas Special on the iPlayer then. Mind you, that's probably enough to get him done by the detector vans. He really should think about putting a password on it...
