It probably tastes like sheeeeeeeit too. They seem to be all about big numbers and getting free advertising rather than making nice beer. You'd probably be better off with a decent single malt.

Blimey, I sound like a right beardy CAMRA type there don't I? Really I'm down with the kids, honest.

I bet most of those taste like crap. I love red bull drinks, bought one of these 'energy shots' in a petrol station recently, thought i'll give it a go, was disgusting, obviously strong as anything, just horrible !

heh, I stick with lucozade if I want an energy drink!

It probably does taste like crap but I've tried some pretty strong beers in my time (9-13%) at beer festivals and they were some of the best beer/lagers I've ever had. Admittedly they were not from the UK tents but from the Bavarian one.

I think the max I ever had was 4 or 5 and I seriously knew about. Funny thing is, woke up the next day without a hint of a hangover.

Shame Dudley Beer Festival stopped. It was the highlight of the year in that town!!

I didn't know that it was possible to make a brew this strong without destillation.
My own experiments has always ended up with ca 17 %.

I suppose they could just cheat and add pure alcohol to the mix.

    Agreed.

But with my reduced capacity for alcohol nowadays, 1 bottle of that stuff and I'd be totally bongo'd!

    Cheap neet out!

The strongest beer I've had was that Gold Lable stuff that you used to find in some pubs. I've not seen it in years. I though it was vile stuff as it was far too thick and as it was suppose to be a larger, it didn't really have much taste to it.

There is a local brewery near me called Cropton (They brew the Yorkshire Bitter that Marks & Spencer sell if you want to try some...it's very nice ;) ) and they make a strong beer that has plenty of flavour to it. They call it "Slaughter" and it's about 6.5%. It does exactly what it says on the tin (so to speak :D )

You can still buy that Gold Label crap in little 6 packs of cans AFAIK, my local beer shop back home used to sell it. It was expensive though, and like most strong lagers tasted like metal, not beer!

From what I remember of my home brew days I think you are right about not getting higher than about 6.5 to 7.00, at it`s highest point it kills the yeast, so that is a self limiting max strength. Any higher than this will be an added extra.
