Vintage Computer Festival UK 2010.

edited May 2010 in Announcements
Hi all,

Just to make you all aware of the UK's first Vintage Computer Festival. June 18th*-20th 2010.

In and around the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park, this is a three day event celebrating the history of computing in the UK. It will cover everything from early machines to retro gaming!

There will be a variety of things to look forward to, including:

Exhibition of private collections
Guest lectures
Machine demonstrations
Bring and buy sale
Vintage challenge
Private collections are welcome and a secure area is planned to allow visitors to see and learn more about the history and restoration of computer systems

All in the beautiful setting of Bletchley Park!

Those who would like to exhibit a private collection, would like to give a demonstration or would simply like to know more are cordially invited to get in touch via the contacts page on our website - please mention that you saw this post on World of Spectrum :)

www.vcf-gb.org

The site has some basic details at the moment and is currently still under construction, so keep watching for further details!

If any of you have an impressive collection of Sinclair/Spectrum kit, then would you be interested in having a display? We're keen to attract enthusiasts who are willing to be both exhibitors and/or speakers.

Regards,
Simon.

*18th June is for setting up and exhibitor BBQ event.

Precisely ;) We've also got the Harwell, which is the world's oldest original, complete, and (eventually we hope!) working computer.

Details will be updated on the website as soon as they're confirmed. In the meantime, anyone interested in being an exhibitor or speaker, please drop me an e-mail :)

    Suggestion for you.

There are a lot of us in here that are big speccy collectors with big speccy collections.
How about, with Marjin?s blessing of course ( you reading this WOS GOD ? ) we do a ?World of Spectrum? display?

I?m up for it and I?m sure we could do something really special between us... hell, I?ll even miss the summer solstice for it! now thats commitment!

SO, there?s the suggestion, anyone else up for it?

I'm keeping an eye on this to see how it develops - if it's big/interesting enough, I might come down with some sort of screen (24" widescreen LCD monitor at the very least) and have the documentary on a loop, together with other things (posters of animation artwork? hmmm...).

The choice of Bletchly was inspired.

Sounds like a good idea to me :)

Obviously as I'm co-organising this I need to collate exhibitors in advance. I can't say who I've got lined up so far, but suffice to say it should be big ;)

It's being run by The National Museum of Computing who are based at Bletchley Park - the world's first data centre, effectively :)

I'd be interested, but I can't commit yet at this stage. I don't have any hardware but I could have something to show development under emulation. I'd do my best to back something if it was WoS-orientated.

I'll go as it's not too far :) to show my c64 old skool dev setup I'd have to borrow a working c128 though :(

hopefully all my spectrums will be working by then , and maybe my atari 800xl will be modded by then :) (tape loaders are **** on it)

I suppose that the CCC(UK) will be there, but so far we did not discuss anything about .. (maybe on our meeting - next week..)

not that I know much about CCC but I know TMR is involved.. I've known him and the rest of the crew since hhm 88-89 :)

not seen him in years though, since obviously he lives up t'north. (using that as an excuse is lame as trooper lives quite near and I haven't caught up with him either..hehe)

and Conrad I know from a demo site :)

Lol...;) A few of our guys are looking forward to seeing that!

I thought WoS may like to promote their presence at the event though.

If anyone else would like to be a part of this, please email me at the VCF e-mail address. :)

Last chance for any WoS presence for this event!

It's going to be big - OMD are headlining the event in the evening.
