I had a really old Renault 5, used to be funny when you tilted when it went round corners. Was nice, silver, bit 'sporty' but the petrol gauge didnt work and it backfired a ton when you turned it off which was embarassing.

Only time my folks got me a car, i remember it was ?400 from one of my dads employees at the time.

That first moment when you drive without a learner plate and someone next to you, great feeling.

Fond memories but i didnt have a clue about cars back then, never put oil or water in it so was 'surprised' when it broke down with steam coming out of the radiator.

Also didnt put anti-freeze in (never knew ! ahem) and spent one night with a hair dryer at all the pipes to defrost it (actually worked).

    You live and learn !

Looked on the net a few weeks back to get pics of all the cars i've had over the years, obviously not the actual car but the same colour/model.

I'm 37 now, i worked out i'm on my 10th car ! Basically swap cars every two years, never want one for years as i like the change (obviously). Never want a people carrier though, cant stand em !

I had an old "D" reg 1964 Series IIa Land Rover, just like this one, except mine was all white, and was an ex-field ambulance. I couldn't find a decent picture of one, but this is a pretty accurate model, except mine had a spare wheel on the bonnet, and windows in the back.

Want to find out where the old car you once owned is now? Well check out www.cartell.ie (this will only work for people in Ireland and the UK and it will cost a bit to get a detailed report).

I've only owned two cars in my life so far, a Nissan Micra and a Fiat Punto. I sold the Punto as I couldn't afford to use it anymore and I don't need to drive anyway.

Or carfax.com if you're in the States.

    I prefer bikes ...

    I wouldn't mind having a Peugot.

yer my sister.. 6 times , so when I got it 1st time.. she wasn't happy..

as to whether she is a better driver.. maybe.. dunno..

I mean both of us have driven cars and transits etc.. which made me laugh when a manager at work had an astra and didn't wanna drive a transit when a driver rang in sick.. and I only drove a 1.4 metro (smaller) and could manage em no worries.

I once moved a 7.5tonne truck out the way of the forklift I was driving at work, didn't have license for either. Forklift was a doddle to drive, dodgy company wouldn't put most of us through the test, cos didn't want us to leave and do it someplace else. So, you needed some sheet metal for your job, you had to hop in a forklift and fetch it yourself.

We'd often drive the fork lifts round the industrial estate at nights, delivering jobs to other companies, or collecting materials for the jobs we were working on, these were public roads on a technicality too. Often the police would drive past, and not give us a second look.

Truck was a bit intimidating, I just put it reverse and moved it back a few feet. Couldn't drive a car at the time either.

A 1.7 Morris Marina. At that time, all 1.7s were orange, and all 1.3s were green, so mine was orange.

It was crap and leaked like a canoe. I kept a tube of bathroom sealent in the glove box for keeping the windscreen water proof.

But it could beat a golf up to 60 miles an hour. After that it started to shake apart.

Didn't get a car until I was 27. I passed my test on the 3rd time. It wasn't that I couldn't do it; it was just down to nerves. Until 27 I cycled everywhere. I probably cycled at least 10 miles a day almost every day of my life from 17 to 27. I used to be really fit! I'm 36 now and have been driving since then and I am lot less fit . I am going to buy a decent bicycle when I have the money. Trouble is around here you could only use it from May to September. After that it is bloody freezing with snow.

Anyway, my first car was a burgundy Hyundai Accent with less than 20,000 miles on it. Not a flashy car but I liked it. Later on I got a racing green Hyundai Coupe, which I really liked.

My dad had a 1.7 estate and yes they were quick. mainly due to the aluminium head engine that was designed for the Bedford van. The engine was designed to pull 1.5 tonne with ease in the van, so when BL stuck it in the Marina it went like stink.

The major problem was that the running gear (suspension et al) could not cope, so you were all right as long as you did not go round a corner.!!. It still had leaf springs at the rear and McPherson Struts at the front.

First car was one of them Nissan Micras, the pointy nose ones before the "Bubble" shaped ones. Late 80's I think it was first registered. It was about 12 year old when I got it.

Then I got an Alfa Romeo 156 1.8 TS.

Currently driving a chipped Ford Cougar 2.5L V6.

Favourite has to be the Alfa though...absolute bullet that motor and looked the nuts!!

My first car was a sandy-coloured Austin Allegro that I bought for ?400, but fortunately not one of those Allegros with a square steering-wheel.

It's hard to imagine that they would have a car with a square steering wheel really...

a friends dad have one of them. It's not really odd, I mean, in the sense of you can only turn the wheel SO far.. he had the classic orange one.hehe

erm bit like the flap paddle gear things on f1 cars, high end, you'd prolly get used to it

I haven't owned many cars but I've driven a lot of things. Just for fun I'll try and recall them all:

    Metro 1.3
    Ford Escort MkIII
    Skoda Favorite 1.3
    Skoda Fabia 1.6 estate
    Triumph Acclaim
Ford Fairmont station wagon 4.1 (my favourite)
    Volvo estate
    7.5 ton truck
    Renault 19
    Volkswagen Polo
    Ford Mondeo estate
    Hi-back van

I'm sure there were others but those are the only ones that come to mind.

Ermmm!... well... ermmm... in my case... *cough* *cough*

... the naked truth is.. 5 times... (practical test, but written test at the first time). I was a bit 'clumsy'... The first test I was said 'run the engine and turn right'... I run and turn... left. A disaster.

But I think it's a question of experience. You improve in time. I don't think I am a bad driver.

By the way, my first car was a white Renault 12. Very cool!

7.5 tonners aren't that hard to drive. I drove them on a Graandfathered licence in the UK (so I never needed to take a test) and have driven 5 tons (same, but unladen weight) in Canada.

Personally, I think they kicked in that Class 3 licencing in the UK as a cash grab. There is a bit to learn switching from cars to 7.5 tonners, but with a bit of sense you're fine. Backing up is a bit intimidating at first, but you soon get used to it.

One of my first jobs when i was 19 involved driving these id only passed my test 3 months previously, so to go from driving my dads nissan micra to this was a bit of a jump. The job only involved moving them around a yard and not on public roads. Oh mine werent hovis they were kingsmil.
