forget top 10 and top 100 .... what IS legendary status ?

games that go beyond the top 100..

much like say armalyte+wizzball on c64 and rescue on fractulus on atari 8 bit... games that were good BUT basically speccy , if that makes sense :)

games that everyone like and if someone who talked to you about speccy and DIDN'T mention em, you'd think they didn't know whats up.

a few obvious ones to start off...

jetpac / manic miner / daley thompson decathlon / sabre wulf

(or are there people out there who hate em :-? much like I think alien 8 and other iso games are over rated.hehe)

and I'm not including arcade conversions such in this :)

Quazatron - great monochrome graphics, super attention to detail and bags of gameplay. Unequivocally a Speccy classic

I second that... I can't get enough of it.. It's usually the first game I play whenever I fire up the emulator, :D
    So far, so meh :)

    Head Over Heels

One of the best 3d isometric adventures to hit the Speccy, with intriguing and challenges puzzles to keep you busy for hours. Sure Fairlight 1 & 2 bought this genre to the limelight, but Head Over Heels had the cuteness factor that would soon have you hooked to your Speccy for hours!

It also amazes me how they squeezed all those rooms into 48k of memory...

    Have to agree with this.

If I had to pick a couple of Ultimate classics, I'd go with Jetpac & Knight Lore.

Knight Lore without doubt is legendary speccy game, but i like to mention Dynamite Dan 2, Dan Dare, Robin of the Wood - Spectrum versions are unique, much better than c64 or Amstrad ones.. great achievement for that time, everlasting games for me..

I was waiting to see if folks would say EVERYTHING ultimate was put out was good ? the majority of it was , but not everything.. they kinda went off the boil IMHO.

and my fav thing about their games, underwurlde where ya suspended from that 1 pixel string.hehe

2 more.. trashman and penetrator..(both I got from the local woolies :) ) , although they never did sell much of that sinclair silver paper at ?5 a roll.

The Sentinel - an epic game if there ever was one.

Wasn't that a BBC game first

I'd say Manic Miner I bet it's the first game most people load when they get there hands on an emulator for the first time, I know I did.

Quite like the early 16k games as they were very basic and had excellent gameplay. Sabre Wulf blew me away when i first saw it, Underwurlde i was never a fan of, found it too frustrating, Knight Lore/Alien 8 were breathtaking when they came out but i spent 8 quid on just trying to find new rooms really !

Enjoyed Gunfright but wasnt a huge fan of Pentragram (Wasnt bad) and Cyberrun was difficult as anything.

If by "legendary", you mean a game that flies the flag for the Spectrum, a game that could be considered the "poster boy" for the Spectrum...a game that, as soon as you say the words "ZX Spectrum" people instantly think of said game...then aye, Jet Set Willy or Dizzy.
