At the start of the decade I was super fit, really stupidly fit, I'm rather out of shape now, but not too bad. However, I'm a lot happier and more at home with myself these days. :)
You wanna start the martial arts again, if my lungs don't pack up by new years I'm giving serious consideration to doing Tai Kwon Do again. My last martial arts venture was a combo of Kickboxing and Kung Fu. I really wanted to do actual Chinese Wing Chun, but it was 15 quid a session....ouch!
I haven't done Tai Kwon Do for almost 20 years now, but I did enjoy it as a kid, will be interesting to see if I can still jump about like a loon. I injured myself in front of an audience last year in the garden. I decided to practice some martial arts on one of my days off work. There was nobody home but me, so I warmed up went out into the garden and started stringing some moves together albeit rustily. One of the neighbours was watching me, so I tried a Moon Kick/Cheat Gainer or whatever you want to call it, landed funny and nearly snapped my leg off. The neighbour who was watching me just turned round and went back into his house.
I felt like a complete knob as well after that
Shall we have a redundancy compo for the noughties?
I'll go first...
Rage - mobile phone software designer. <Redundant>
Software Creations - lacky to Jmk on abandoned GBA project and Lead Programmer on a GBA released game. <Redundant>
Acclaim Studios Manchester - lacky on abandoned GBA rally game and lacky on GBA Baseball game. <Redundant>
Warthog - lacky on GBA released game, lacky on 'console' unreleased game. <Redundant>
Shorten Suite - my own company, but I am currently suing myself for 'Sexual Harassment' and can't talk about the case. <on going>

You could break the mold with the now un-mensionable game :)

As my eldest daughter is now approaching the age of six I've been thinking about taking her to martial arts lessons as I found it a wonderful way of keeping fit in my early twenties. I got her swimming by the time she was four so I think this would be a nice next step.
I haven't been MA training for years though (it actually fooked me back up and was why I gave it up) so does anyone have any recommendations? I used to do Lau Gar Kung Fu but I think that may be a bit much for her. Trainign was pretty intense back then and although eventually I want her to try it, it may put her off.

I have started martial arts again. :) Supposed to be grading to 7th Kyu on Sunday, but I've been a bit under the weather, might have to skip it.
Martial arts is like Rugby - with the right guidance and good people around early on - it's "character forming" - good lessons for life in anger management.
The last thing you want is the greedy football thing where someone lightly brushes off you and you're rolling around on the ground trying to fool the ref........
I'd say something noble but less demanding like Muay Thai would be good for kids - that's what mine are going to be doing anyway(if they want to - the first one is the spit of me - so I reckon she'll want to........)

I think I'm going to have to start exercising again soon, just to get myself used to it again, no sense in trying to do martial arts again if I'm gonna collapse wheezing after 30 seconds
Been meaning to start for ages, think I'll leave it til' after new years, and then I'm gonna try and pack the snouts in again when I do. Managed to quit a second time this year albeit briefly, only lasted about 3 weeks and buckled. But I've still broke up my habit much more than I did last time. I only smoke a snout on my 1st and last breaks at work, and I mainly only smoke at home when I'm having some beer. If I smoke when I'm not drinking it's usually about every 2-4 hours. Compared to about 5 years ago that's about 1/4 of what I used to smoke. I've quit twice in the last 3 years, and I think after new years this will be the final attempt no more snouts, as I'm still young enough to combat some of the damage.
Also up until yesterday I hadn't had any beer for 2 weeks, and I haven't actually bought any for just over 3 now.

Don't stop trying to put them down. It will be one of the best things you ever do.
I was trying for years, but I never even managed a whole day without them. Then I read the book by Alan Carr (Easy way to Stop Smoking) and it changed my whole outlook on smoking. I managed 3 months several times. Finally, I had hypnotism which did the trick.
Eight years ago I was nearly 20st, now I'm running 4 miles 3-4 times a week now.

How did you know about "DiPSTiK"?
Oh, and no-one go and steal this name, you unimaginative gits!
