inglorious bast*rds

edited December 2009 in Chit chat
- did a quick google, didnt see any threads about this.

film of the year. first time in ages I've been glued to my seat watching any film, let alone by tarantino who has been pretty substandard lately (imo).

the trailers made it look rubbish, which is what put me off seeing it at the cinema.

this is how I would now rank tarantino's films:

pulp fiction
inglorious basterds
reservoir dogs
kill bill 1
death proof
jackie brown
kill bill 2

I know there's other 'tarantino'' films but they're not really his, I think these are all the ones he actually 100% directed

Jackie Brown is cool, but I'm no fan of the others I'm afraid.

I've really tried to get into it, but every time I watch it my brain just turns off 1/2 hour in for some reason. wouldn't say it's a bad film, just doesn't interest me. possibly because pulp fiction and reservoir dogs made me have a pre-concieved idea of what his films 'should' be like,I dunno...

    id say

    pulp fiction
    jackie brown
    kill bill
    inglorious basterds

i dont really like reservoir dogs tbh

ive always counted true romance, killing zoe and natural born killers as tarentino films too still :)

I'm a big fan of Tarantinos, have all his dvds, i did enjoy Basterds (Downloaded it ages ago but bought the dvd this week) but it didnt blow me away. I actually really enjoyed Planet Terror as some cheesy 70's type of film.

Kill Bill would have been good if it was one film, thought it was way too long.

Yea i was the same, just couldn't get into Jackie Brown, even with the stellar cast. The only good thing about the film was Pam Grier (yum yum!)

Planet Terror was directed by Robert Rodriguez (it was his half of the Grindhouse collaboration), and Death Proof was by Tarantino, which I thought was god-awful. I was a huge fan of Tarantino until Kill Bill came out... I thought it was way too gimmicky and silly, part two wasn't as bad, but they're still not a patch on his earlier films, in my opinion.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I've never seen Four Rooms which, if I remember rightly, is also directed by both Rodriguez and Tarantino.

Havent seen Four Rooms in ages, i remember cringing as i couldnt stand Tim Roths character. One of the stories was decent.

From dusk till dawn i loved, the first part with the creepy Tarantino as a rapist was good (And Clooney with the superb tattoo), the second half a great OTT zombie film.

Agree about Kill Bill Part 2, found the first one quite dull. I need to see True Romance again, quite liked that years ago but i do have a dislike for characters talking straight to the camera !

also Hell Ride from last year, thought that one was brilliant. not a true tarantino film but looks like one and his names on the case

Jackie Brown is his best movie. I don't think anyone has done a better film adaptation of an Elmore Leonard novel. As much as I enjoyed Kill Bill it was overindulgent and should have been edited down to a single film. Inglourious Basterds could have been tighter, but the scene where the Americans are trying to pass themselves off as Italians makes up for it.

I'll be honest I thought Jackie Brown was a snore inducing pile of crap, to this day I still haven't managed to watch it all the way to the end.

The rest of his movies are OK but have been steadily getting worse over the years, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, and Reservoir Dogs are the only Tarantino movies I've managed to watch more than once.

yeah it is long, and slow, but if you get in the mood for it its great, ive seen it 3 or 4 times all the way through

I enjoyed Inglourious Basterds. The Austrian actor who played the German officer should get an Oscar for his performance IMO. Absolutely brill.

Of all Tarantino movies I still prefer Pulp Fiction though.
