And on that note I'm off away from the Spectrum and over to try and write some games for the ZX81...

Excellent stuff Bob, Mister Beep, Fikee, Graz & Andrew Owen!

Nice puzzle game quite remniscent of Chu-Chu Rocket, but different enough to not be a direct clone :)

....and a level editor too, this is the gift that keeps on giving.

Thank you very much indeed! :)

Hey, I'm playing it right now (up to 'What a Tangled Web We Weave') and just wanted to say I'm loving it!

Presentation is up there with any professionally released title from back in the day, and the gameplay concept is excellent. It does strike me as being a little similar to the online Dreamcast title 'Chu Chu Rocket', but that's no bad thing, and the festive theme (plus the festive timing) is rather nice.

Thanks a lot, amazing to see high quality Spectrum titles still being released in the run-up to 2010!

It's great to see it all come together. Have just finished playing the first Six levels :)

it takes a bit of thinking, which luckily is one of my strong points. no wait that's farting.

    Nice logical game.

The graphics is a bit simple but it's smooth and really entertaining.

Shame that I am sleepy now and won't be able to play it more now.

Yeah, wait until you get to level 13. It's worth noting they don't have to be played in order.

Took me a little while to figure out how I was suppose to play it. But then I got it!

    What a neat little game!

    Very nice.

Already finished all 40 levels, it took me around 70 minutes.

I've got one of those. It's called the Buzzsaw+ source code. Now if someone would just pay for me to fly to Colorado and back, or maybe fund a week in Corfu, I might get it finished as that's the only time it seems to get worked on.

How do I place arrows onto the levels? I assumed it would be done by pressing the 'Fire' key, but, once a level has begun, the 'Fire' key doesn't seem to do anything... :-?

I must be missing the obvious because others are merrily playing it!

EDIT: It's okay -- I've worked out that I have to press the direction key at the same time as the 'Fire' key. Nothing to see here, move along! ;)

I'm not the only one who ignored the instructions first time round then, he he.

At the risk of protesting too much, I did read the instructions first! I'm afraid I'm wired up funny like that... but, unless I missed it, they didn't mention how to place arrows...

    Er, did they? :-?

To position the arrow, press the "fire" key and then press the direction key at the same time. When all the arrows are placed, move the cursor down and select PLAY.

Thanks for the instructions, although (as I mentioned in the edit to my post) I did work it out!

Sorry, my mistake. I've updated the inlay text accordingly.

Very nice, polished game, that. Thanks very much!

As a matter of interest, what tools did you use to create it? Is it a z88dk + SpritePack game, or did you do it all in asm?

Looking forward very much to any zx81 stuff you produce in the future too...

Thanks for taking the trouble to do so.

It's a fun game... In addition to the 'taking a look at it' play, I returned to it a couple of times yesterday because I felt like doing another couple of levels! So, that's a pretty good sign! :-)

I got stuck on... erm, level 17 I think it is. Who was responsible for coming up with that one? ;)

Make sure you check out Bob's other games. W*H*B is a great game, the Stranded games are very good as well.

My personal favourites are the Farmer Jack games which are based on some classic arcade games.

All written in assembly - I'm not a fan of using libraries. I've nothing against the Z88DK, but I prefer to be in as much control of my code as possible, and know everything about it. That's half the challenge for me - to write all the code to make these games, the only caveat to which are the music routines, which in this case is the Orfeus player.

So a full-list of the tools used for this game would be...

    PASMO (assembler).
ZX-Paintbrush (for trying out screen layouts)
Tommy-Gun (all the sprites & font)
Crimson Editor (for editing the files)
    Orfeus (music routine)
TXTTOBAS (I think that's what it's called? Used to create the BASIC loader).
    SPIN (for testing)
    ZXDS (for testing)

Nice one, Bob. Took me a minute or two to figure out what to do at first, but figured it out once I got my brain in gear. :)
