ah hah! here is the real reason!

    mile
    PiMan 16-11-2005 13,051

He knew mile was shortly to overtake him as top bullshitter and so had retired while still on top...OR can use the excuse..'Mile is only ahead because I took a break'.

I'm secretly of the notion that the postcount should be disabled/hidden.

It's superfluous information-garbage, in my humblest of opinions.

That's because your last score hasn't been taken into account and added to your total! OOPs!

    You are the posting GOD!

The best suggestion I've seen on a forum this year! When World Of Spectrum's forums started in 2001, there was no post count, so people wouldn't post nonsensically just to reach "the top". If I post 2000 times, does that mean my opinion counts for more than someone who posts 200 times? I'd like to see the post count disabled because I think it serves no purpose.

I post way too much but working at home (and being able to touch type) doesnt take long for me to reply. On a 'most words' list though ewgf would beat me hands down ;)

I dont think anyone here is bothered by their post count, we might have a jokey 'i'm about to reach 5000 posts' type of thread, i remember when people wondered what the next Speccy character was when Karingal was by some 'magic' number and he purposely wouldnt post which was amusing.

On the other hand if you delete post counts we wont be told off for being rude to noobs ! ;)

I hadn't thought of that reason. That's a damned good reason for getting rid of post counts - at least publishing them publicly.

Mind you, CSS didn't have post counts and there was still a clique who were unforgiving about newbies' minor transgressions.

The general consensus on any of the boards that I have been on is that unless you have a high post count and Flashy Avatars, your opinions count for little, when you have gathered enough points to buy the all singing and dancing upgrades and still have not used a single point to buy anything, you get ridiculed and told, what is the point in earning all of those points and not using them, why are you even on here. I say " Well actually I thought the point of this forum was to discuss matters, not glorify ourselves ". So I am also of the opinion that the points system is outdated and not realy of importance, I may not have many post points on here, but I don`t think that it really matters a jot. How many post points would Jesus have had ( If he was real ), yet we are still listening to things he said two thousand years ago.

We have post points?, news to me. I don't use that many forums but I have never seen the sort of thing you talk about. Have you got an example site so I can see what you mean.

We have post counts, some other forums have points awarded by Mods and credit points for replies, stars and flags. If I tell you the specific sites I am talking about, I will unceasingly have the piss taken, and no, they are not porn.

Personally I'm here for the good of the community in any way I can make a contribution, to meet like minded people, share views and have a laff and if I'm fortunate enough get together and have a beer or two at an event.

However in a community such as this there will always be different opinions that can lead to a bit of sabre rattling now and again which is a shame especially when people take umbridge and feel they can no longer contribute. I hate arguments and will avoid them at all costs if I can, if it does happen I am of the mind set to say my peice but not hold a grudge.

I say to all those who feel thay have been wronged at anytime over the years please do not stay away too long, but however long it takes we will be waiting for you when you return home.

Only post on a few forums, the post count does nothing. Seen on the old torrent type site, forums where you have to have at least 10 posts before you can get links etc.

Dont know if its possible but taking away post counts is fine, perhaps leave it for the first 10 so you know which people are noobs or not.

But i dont know one person here who thinks anything important regarding their post count. If anything it just (ahem) shows which ones of us have too much time on their hands, nothing else.

I've just noticed that frobush is the only person rated as "Code Master" which has a certain irony.

I always thought we were quite good with the noobs helping them with emulators and finding half remembered games, I've been on Facebook a bit recently so all theses recent going's on are a bit beyond me.

I mean what happened to Dunny?
  • edited December 2009
I've written quite a few long responses to noobs over in the games section telling them about the various great sites to use etc.

But granted if someone arrives and asks 'Where do i get ultimate games from?' then i might let loose ;)

Granted they might not know why theyre denied but surely we can all use Google and find them anyway ?

Its also worth remembering that the post count is wrong by quite a large amount for some people. In the mists of time we had a private section for discussing preservation issues and MIA titles, which when it was closed and deleted, meant all the posts came off peoples total count. It was also cleaned out every so often which also meant lost posts. I reached 1000 posts three times because of this, my post count was yo yo-ing like the proverbial tarts knickers.

Your only saying this because I've got more post's than you :p

Still cant believe how long it must have taken that former poster to delete the vast majority of his own posts !

By gawd! I'll have to find some other ol' sod to pick on now. Damn inconvenient of him to buzz off like this, I tell you. And after all these years...

Oh well, each to his own. I hope this means he'll unleash a major new version of Spud sometime soon! :)

Bye karingal....See ya when (if) you come back.....

I personally like the chit-chat side of things, as I can find a bunch of people with the same sorta interests and around the same age to rant at and talk inane rubbish with...

I like all the speccy stuff too, but I think if the site went to a purely Speccy centred site with no chat, the forums would get to the same level as other retro sites I've been on...In other words people posting one thing every week, and waiting for a reply for days....Chit chat keeps the forum active...

    Well, thats my opinion anyway...
  • edited December 2009
If Chit-Chat goes, then the off-topic stuff will spread to the on-topic forums - unless the moderators blatt anything off-topic on sight, which will alienate a lot of people.
  • edited December 2009
The chit chat forum really brings Speccy gamers together i think. As i said before i've met many people from WOS, look forward to meeting more in the future.

I always thought the Games part of the forum would be very popular but that seems to be very quiet which is a shame

What's with all the chit chat attack? Play the game boys, or ultimately we will all lose.
