Did a search on this, people are saying its a 'clever' marketing ploy..

    http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/dixons-the-last-place-you-want-to-go?/3004697.article

Bit bizarre but you never know !

Telling the truth in marketing - now that would be bizarre

It's part of a marketing campaign. There have been big posters up on the tube for weeks basically saying go to Selfridges find the model you want then buy it online at Dixons. However after reading the slogan my initial thought was: "well quite."

Wow, can't believe that's part of a campaign. Fooled me.

And let's face it, it's got people posting msgs about Dixons. Job done I guess!

I hate Dixons, Currys and Comet / insert any electrical store name...

IN31 - I want that thing there, just that, no extended warranty..just that thing...
    Salesman - No problem sir...<click click>
Salesman - Have you thought about extended warranty?
IN31 - I already said I don't want one, I am an electrical/electronics engineer by trade I can fix most things myself
Salesman - Can I just show you the difference between our warranty and the manufacturers one?
    IN31 - Fuck off

You automatically get a 2 year warranty on all electrical goods sold in the EU, no matter what the shop says.

I once had to buy a CD player at short notice for a stand at a trade show and the guy in Comet went into his warranty shite and I replied...

"I don't want a warranty, it has to last one week and some fucker will probably nick it at the end of that"

Probably get 6 years with the sales of goods act, if your prepared to go to to court.

Gerald Ratner. The boss of Highly successful cut-price Jewelery Chain Ratners, who during a speech at a conference, said their ?4.99 decanter set was crap, and their earings were cheaper than a M&S Prawn sandwich (and probably wouldn't last as long).

Surprisingly sfter the speech there shares tumbled and the company almost went bust.

Yeah, depends on the item, I guess. But 2 years is automatically the minimum. Shops and manufacturers will tell you it's just 1 year. I see no reason why a tv shouldn't last at least 5 years. Not that it matters much now, as we are being force to buy HD and the new SUPER3D GlobeBand DZM.

Two more come to mind. Rumbelows and Laskys. I would rather shop there than Dixons. Even though they're defunct.

(Wow - Laskys is still going. They had a store in Preston in the 80s that shut down and I never heard of them after that, but they still have a website so I guess they survived..)

maybe... or like woolworths it's a new company using their name :)

a LOT of web based companies will just order via the main company..e.g. washing machine came via zanusi warehouse and they get some sorta discount for bulk buying I guess.
