free speech is a myth, you cant have complete free speech unless you want to allow people to bully people until they cant take no more and kill themselves like that woman that killed her and her daughter due to abuse for years from local chavs

or to allow people to perpetuate racist claptrap until it causes people to go out and kill

    Damn! I missed another one?

Although it seems kind of depressing so maybe it's just as well, and with a title like that it'd no doubt have angried up my blood within a few posts

a 2 year old Brazilian child was abused by a stepfather. datacorder expressed his dislike for the stepfather.

Most people are under the misconception that free speech means that you can say what you like without fear of consequence.

    This is not true.

Free Speech is the freedom to say what you like as long as you are prepared to face the consequences.

In any case, this is a moot point. Free speech does not apply in private establishments where the rules have been agreed upon as a condition of entry. This web site counts counts as that. There is no obligation to protect 'free speech' here, however there is an obligation to follow the posting rules.

Absolutely right, but it's more than that, is it not? For example, I don't believe anyone has the right to randomly shout "FIRE!" in a cinema. Freedom doesn't come without responsibility for others too.

So I take it that we should all turn a blind eye to people who torture children and pretend that it didn`t happen ? Just in case we hurt the torturers feelings, right I understand now, should we also pass a law abolishing prisons because they take away peoples freedom, whilst we are at it ?
Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........

I just don't understand where you're coming from at all. You're saying that accepting freedom comes with responsibility means we should allow the torture of children? That doesn't seem a very sensible point to me.

ive noticed on a forum i frequent theres a certain mindset (generally it comes from a right wing of thinking) that if say you support immigrants or muslims (innocent ones may i say, that have done absolutely nothing wrong) then the next attacks you get say you MUST support terrorists
it seems you cant hate terrorists and be in support of innocent people who happen to be muslim

likewise i suppose if you posted what you posted then you support criminals?

is this the point where we all fall out?

But why would saying freedom comes with responsibility mean I support criminals?

From what I gather, free speech is something only goverments have the right to without concequence.

You can say what you like about it, in the appropriate forum. This is not that forum. Encouraging criminal behaviour (vigilantism) has no place on these forums. If you want to encourage more Spectrum enthusiasts to leave the forum then you are going the right way about it.

Oh Jeez! If I make a lost levels or a special edition maybe one day? But I do not plan to make any sequels, the first one took too long.

    18 months.....and I originally estimated about 6 weeks :D

The price is more like several hours lost sleep and a contant distraction that lasted for 18 months... Was fun, though, if more than a little overwhelming in the end.

Once it's over you will feel soulless and empty.

Well maybe not that bad, but I now have so many ideas of things I wanted to do after Miles Mad Mission I don't know where to start?

I've already started another JSW remake (with a difference), and after that I may dabble with AGD, or maybe finally get round to trying to pen my elusive text adventure "Advanced WHSmith Nightshift Simulator". Or I may pick up a coding book and try to get to grips with BASIC again, it's been probably about 20 years since I did anything constructive with BASIC, and I'm yet to do anything with MC.

I can't even remember how to attach a loader onto a game....oh dear oh dear.

Sad but true I cobbled together a loader for maybe Maria on Tour or The Man Who Sold the World a few years back, but couldn't remember how to attach it

I've still got it somewhere

    *grin*

I'll be taking a sabattical from Speccy stuff for a few months - perhaps the whole of 2010 - whilst I explore more mainstream avenues. Would like to rediscover what life was like *without* having anything Xmas related going on in the background.

Having said that, you'd probably be best placing a bet on the 1990 chapter coming out next year... although if it does, it definitely won't be as grandiose as the Xmas Special...
