Whats going wrong?

My internet speed is really playing "silly buggers" recently. I've run a speedtest and got this result...

But, everything is taking an age to download. Youtube videos buffer for ages, BBC Iplayer is very slow unless I drop to the lower bandwidth option. Even the pictures in the caption compo thread are downloading at near dial-up speed?

I know speed also depends on the servers that all these are coming from, but the whole internet can't be on a "go slow", just because it's snowing (it's actually been like this for a while now)

Yeah...been the same here.I just thought it was probably due to more people being online 'coz they're all stuck indoors and/or are on holiday..but I don't know how much that would affect it, being as tech-savvy as a banana...

Orange broadband here....I'm plugged directly in, so it's not as bad as my mum and my brother who are connected wirelesslly upstairs..I only really notice youtube videos being slow, but my mum's won't load her e-mail or orange for ages...

Oh, and we've always been set up like this, so it's not the amount of people using it! :)

    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

try using that to find out how far you are from your local exchange.. I told my friend to get a cable modem (virgin etc) because the connection via his BT line is like 50k a second or something really woeful

assuming orange are using BT lines?!?!

they might have put you on a a different ratio of users maybe if your a heavy downloader (in peak time?!?!) hhmm

I'm on O2 and suffered some serious slowness on my 20Mb line. Was down to 2 or 3 Mbps at some points.

Turns out they had done something, found a page on t'internet that showed you how to TelNet into your router and reset some DNS settings.

    Mine works a treat now.

Apparently O2 and Be use the same kit or something.

Just thought it might be same problemo I had.

O2 is Be. They are both Telefonica. I use them and I get more than the 8Mbps I'm paying for. I have no complaints.

I'm on Orange too and mine is directly wired into my PC and isn't a wireless connection. i find the Orange Live Box to be very tempremental with it's wireless conection too.

Today, pictures are loading OK, but Youtube still sucks. The flash games on Facebook are loading faster today too. Must be Orange being crap again!

AH! OK...I knew there was some commonality in there!!

My wife works for O2, I pay knack all and get the fastest line available...as I'm about a half mile from my nearest exchange I can usually get around 12 - 14Mbps...sometimes a little quicker if there's a following wind

No, Scarborough in North Yorkshire. piccys are loading fine now and I downloaded the new Misfits songs off of I-tunes in seconds yesterday, but videos are just taking forever. It's like having Dreamcast dialup speed all over again :(

Doesn't sound like a bandwidth issue it could be a problem with your PC or browser streaming video:-?
