Games so insanelly unforgiven that still make you curse everyone involved in it?

On Speccy: MadBalls

Hell you havent even started the dam game and you where already losing lives... I tried it again the other day and found my self screaming just like in 87!

on SNES: The Simpsons - Bart's Nightmare

Who was the idiot behind that? not only is a bad game & ridiculously hard, some mini-games on it don't even have any gameplay logic (like the indiana jones one)

I remember finding the first part of Braxx Bluff (the bit where you have to align the dot) insanely frustrating and annoying.

Ah, Braxx Bluff! I never get past the first part at all, I am not sure if I understood what I was supposed to do. Got it with some 10-game compilation, but with little or none instructions included.

    My one... Infiltrator.

Okay, so I can take off and fly around a bit, but that's about it. I've had it since it was first released. Time to read the instructions again, methinks!

Yeh it was on one of those beau jolly compilations. Thing is, it was the first part! I so wanted to play the rest of it, it looked much more fun, think I did it once, then gave up after that.

Cobra and Green Beret, not only too damn hard games, but also so bad coded :D :p

Airwolf. I could never get past about the fifth screen 25 years ago, and I still can't today even if I slow the emulator down.

"Spanish Deadman" - where, to get the code to pass the 1st level, you have to travel to Spain and kill Ivanzx. Very expensive. But worth it.

Airwolf for me too. I think I only got past the second screen a handful of times and probably died very quickly afterwards.

The trick with the first part of Braxx Bluff is to ignore the main screen and concentrate your efforts on the ILS, which is the small circles to the side of it. Keep the dot centred, using the cursor keys, so that the numbers are increasing. If you can get it to 8 you'll land safely, but otherwise you'll crash and burn.

A more complete set of instructions can be found here.

"Cyberun" - really hard as you slowly build yourself up. Can't believe I completed it without using cheats!

Neither can I. Did you have an unlimited supply of Spectrums and televisions to throw out of the window?

Yes, but there were bars on the windows. In the Ocean dungeons. Inbetwixt (I've always wanted to use that word) projects.

It took ages! The frame update was about a 'crapth of a second' (technical term).

    A couple of obvious ones:

Lunar Jetman - I was never anything other than utterly shite at it.
Technician Ted - Don't think I ever completed a task.

Ghosts and Goblins. I can honestly say that I only got past the bloody ice palace once.

    Halls of the Things.

Game starts with carefully prodding one or two of the (35 or so) keys to get you to the doorway of the first level.

..Shortly followed by panicked keyboard mashing when a thing comes hurtling towards you chucking fireballs.

..And then the quickest death I've ever experienced in a game. One life. No mercy.

Infuriating. It's one of those games that I always wanted to like and get better at, but whenever I return to it :evil::evil:

Jack and the Beanstalk. I never could get up the poxy beanstalk and off the first screen. You'd quite clearly be on part of the beanstalk, but yet you'd fall and die. And then have to put up with an annoying beeper tune (if I recall correctly) before trying again.

The worst collision detection I've ever experienced, and yet I kept on trying to get to the second screen, for some reason!

Yep, that was a truly dreadful game. I think I bought a second-hand ( ) copy of the Soft Aid compilation. There was some right tat on that. I don't think Starbike ever loaded.

Hahah but there is limited time to complete the mission since I won't be living in Spain soon anymore!!

And going back to topic I tried Habilit the other day, a good idea spoilt by the difficulty level.
Also Navy Moves is a very good game IMHO, but if the coders had lowered the difficulty level, it would have been great.

"Shitzoids" AKA "Schizoids". What the hell was that all about?

EDIT - Ivanzx, I will find you, wherever you are. I need that code.

It was because of Soft Aid that I had it too. Don't worry about Starbike not loading, I didn't think much of that either!

The five most frustrating gmes I've played on the Speccy:

    1. Underwurlde
    2. Underwurlde
    3. Underwurlde
    4. Underwurlde
    5. Underwurlde

It was a toss-up between first and second place, to be honest.

underwurlde is actually pretty easy. you just have to know the trick (HINT: employ soft power - that is oriental terminus technicus. in english - just bounce and do not try hard).
