How many Ultimate games did you complete without cheating?
Ultimate games can be hard - damn hard. I've read a few times that players didn't get very far. I loved the games so I kept at them til they were beaten. This is my list. This includes reaching the clocking of levels on endless games. I can't quite remember the final situations for clocking on things like Tranz Am and Lunar Jetman, I think they just go on and on, but anyway here's my list. Share yours!
COMPLETED IN THE 80s
Atic Atac
Sabre Wulf
Knight Lore
Alien 8
Underwurlde
CLOCKED OR GOT TO A POINT OF REPETITIVENESS
Jetpac
Psst
Tranz Am
Cookie
Lunar Jetman
90% COMPLETE
Cyberun / gutted I got stuck near the end on this one, unless it's endless. I had the sail up on the thing and was floating around with all the gizmos on the ship. Anyone got any info on this one's 'end game'?
GOT NOWHERE WITH IT - Nightshade
ZX IN THE ATTIC - Gunfright / Pentagram
EH? - Martianoids / Bobbler
HELP! - Mire Mare
COMPLETED IN THE 80s

Alien 8 was something that I managed to do a lot of, but could never finish without cheating.
Of the later ones, the only one I got anywhere with was Gunfright. The rest just didn't seem worth the effort, especially Cyberun.
Jetpac I enjoyed but I didn't like Lunar Jetman and found Alien 8 and Knight Lore quite tedious.
Sabre Wulf was okay.
Don't think I played any of the others.

Cookie
Pssst
Mire Mare
COMPLETED/CYCLED THROUGH WITH INFINITE LIVES POKE
Atic Atac (I know it's supposed to be easy, but I always get lost...)
Sabre Wulf
Underwurlde
Jetpac
The rest I never got anywhere near finishing and probably never will.
I watched a Spinny walk-through of Knight Lore on YouTube a while back - I never realised how many items you needed to finish it. I thought I was near the end of it when I managed to find about three!
I can do Atic Atac routinely now - I just do it for time trials. But I never came close to any of the others. I think I once got 3 parts of the amulet in Sabre Wulf without cheating. 2 or 3 objects at most in Knight Lore and Alien 8, and absolutely nowhere in Underwurlde.

LOL
Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978
I got lucky with Sabre Wulf, the pieces spawned in some of the closest spots
The trick to Sabre Wulf was having a feel for the map and knowing where the spawn points for the map amulets were. Then it was a case of dodge the nasties and get to the cave. Very hard mind. I tried it recently and couldn't get very far at all. My patience as a kid must have been very different.
Can't remember. You just travel upwards - the laser defence things are switched off. Probably just says "well done", "game over".
I probably had the sail on the ship which made a big target for the baddies and never made it to the laser gate, and then gave up out of frustration at getting so close. May be that was the ZX attic moment...
Atic Atac - took 10 years of and on to complete it, I could only ever find the acg part of the key. Though sod this for a lark, I drew a map to help me as I finished the last location I found that last elusive peice and finished the game!
Cookie - I'm crap at
jetpac - gone around the clock
pssst - don't really like this one
Tranz Am - cack at it
Lunar Jetman - cack at it
Cyberun - not really played it
Underwurlde - can't get to grips with being bounced around
as for the isometric games I've never played them long enough to do them any justice, but I really should tho.
No, you had the sail attached as you climbed upwards.
But got nowhere on underwurlde , gunfright , nightshade , knight lore , pentagram and alien 8 - must be me !
Atic Atac (with every character), Tranz Am, Cookie, Sabre Wulf, Jetpac.
Got as far as level 13 in Lunar Jetman, Wild Bill in Gunfright and a couple of corks in Bubbler.
Never made much progress in the other games; I should try to sit down and complete them, provided I have time to play these days.
(On a side note, I do not like cheating.)
The filmation games i used to just love looking at and exploring !
Got quite far with Sabre Wulf but back then as a kid i kept moving onto so many other games quickly as there were so many great games being released every month.
Found Lunar Jetman so frustrating
Top marks to people for completing Knight Lore or Alien 8, must have taken a ton of practice back then
I was never a member of the Knight Lore appreciation society until I poked the game for infinite lives to get a bit further into it. Suddenly it clicked so I can get about 4 items into the cauldron without cheating. But unfortunately there are too many unpredictable enemies for me.
Sabre Wulf is a game I dislike. It seemed to be nice use of colour and packaging of an otherwise standard game in order to get away with a newly inflated price standard. Sabre Wulf always struck me as buoyed up by the marketing hype that many WOSers dislike in games/music etc today. I think it may have been PSJ who once said on this forum that he had to buy the original of Sabre Wulf because the box looked so good on his shelf... I remember that feeling - I even succumbed to the extent of having the advert as a poster on my wall. You see those kids bragging about having the latest mobile phone - that was us with our big box Ultimate game - a braggy brand-peer pressure that still resonates on this forum in threads like this one.
I don't agree at all. SW was one of the games I enjoyed more in the early times of my Spectrum gaming experience and I still have very fond memories of it, especially when I managed to complete it. A true classic in my opinion.
Atic Atac every time for me although I prefer the Surf.
JetPac round and round.
Knight Lore. Can still finish this without cheating (I usually use a map however so that I know where every object is once I have found the first object but in principle I don't think that should stop me winning without a map 'cos you have to scour the hole map anyway)
Sabre Wulf - I've completed it once. I still love playing it - but not because I want to complete it -just to have a stroll in the jungle. :)
Underwurlde - I've completed it once the "right" way and lots of times using the guardian cheat. Can also be completed in about 10 minutes like that.
Jetpac - aaaand...completed this one too - until it loops around.
My games for the Spectrum: Dingo, The Speccies, The Speccies 2, Vallation, SQIJ.
