Think I'm gonna get this. The most direct comparison I can think of is Shenmue, not Dragon's Lair that most not in the know have been spouting. I like how the story branches off dependent on how you react to situations and I thought the detective bit on the train tracks was particularly well done. The facial animation on occasion is unbelievably good.

I heard Heavy Rain might surpass Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as a game. How is HR4 compared to MGS4? (I've only played MGS4 so I can't comment) :)

I played the demo yesterday and thought it was very very good indeed.

As you'd expect, it's a very dark game. The two sections you play through are with the private detective for the first part and then the FBI Agent for the second part. Even though some people have stated that it's just a succession of QTE (quick time events), but, because the story is so engrossing and the voice acting and graphics are simply gorgeous, you just want to know what's going to happen next.

I've also read that it's a real slow burner and takes a good 2 hours to get going.

If the demo is anything to go by then this is a real step forward for gaming and is probably the most grown up game I've ever played.

I'm in two minds about downloading the demo for this. it's a game that I'm very much interested in and will probably buy at release, but it would be good to get to try it out in advance, but if it's as much of a story game as I belive it is, I don't really want to spoil parts of it by playing them out of context. I'll see how my PSN connection is holding up beofre I think about downloading it...

The demo does not give you any idea at all about the story or even what part of the game/story you are playing in. It's basically like watching 2 five minute snippets from a very indepth film.

Gooo on, you know you want to :)

Got my copy of Heavy Rain from Amazon this morning!!!!

I have only played the first 10 mins, but, Christ on a bike it sucks you straight in.

Absolutley nothing has happened yet, but, I just want to play and play and play.

The graphics are amazing and the first section is simply an introduction to the family, but the way that it's portayed you already care for the characters.

Looks like I'm going to waste hour after hour in this one!

I keep seeing the ads for this on telly, looks awesome... something to add to my list of reasons to get a PS3!!

Looks like a game of short cut-scenes, similar to the ones in Wing Commander IV. If so, that could be quite fun, but it looks as though it also needs a roaming/driving/shooting bit as well. The advert doesn't show anything like that.

Its not bad. I would rent it rather than buy it though, replay value is zero!

GS give you feck all for games. I have found flogging games on Amazon is much better. I got ?12 for BioShock 1 which I was pretty chuffed with. Plus you dont have all the faffing around that you have to do with eBay.

The holy grail for me is a game which is like a proper interactive film where your actions really do cause the plot to spiral off in different directions. Obviously this creates grave pratical problems for the game designers and. The usual technique seems to be to let you wonder off piste for a bit before pulling you back to the main narrative at a point where all the sub-plots conjoin. This can work really well if its "cloaked" with sufficient skill, but usually becomes dissapointingly obvious when you replay.

I really loved the demo of farenheit (basically, the bit in the diner from the very beginning) but found the full game a bit disappointing (although I still enjoyed it a lot).

I think that Heavy Rain looks great and I'm really annoyed its PS3 only and love to hear people's opinion of it in respect of my comments above

I've just brought my copy from HMV. It's exclusive to them and comes with the soundtrack (looks like it's a PSN network download as there is only one disc in the box) and an extra scene. I've not brought a special edition game in ages so I thought I'd get this one as it was only ?5 more and most special editions recently have been ?10/15 more.

I enjoyed the demo and I'm looking forward to givin the full game a go later on :)

Few things for those of you who have just purchased Heavy Rain.

I have experienced a few technical issues with the texturing, but exiting the game, going back the PS3 XMB and switching off the PS3 seemed to work. It might be that I have my PS3 switched on for weeks and weeks.

There have also been reports where the screen goes black and it looks like the game has crashed, but, it has'nt. People have been swicthing off the system at this point and losing their saved game.

With regards to wanting to play a game that revovles around your actions then Heany Rain is it. I think a lot of people will be put off with fact that it's like real life! There is no shooting whilst leaning out of a car window, no Gears of War (spit) type rubbish, no leaping huge gaps without getting hurt. At the moment this is as close to a live action thriller you will get.

    I thinks its ace!

Just bought it today, have been watching my GF play it non stop since 15h, and I think for the first time I don't feel bored at all with just watching someone playing! it's pretty much like watching a movie, and the cool thing is that so far I know I would have taken a total differen aproach to the game that my GF did!

I want to finish Arkham asylum before I start Heavy Rain (I've 80% of the game completed so I think I'll finish it tonight, just stuck in some fighting scene).

The mall part of Heavy rain is really heavy stuff, the hole so far has been heavy stuff... it feels just like a David Fincher Thriller! it's pretty amazzing that a game where nothing seems to happen you feel so drawn in to it!

but as someone has mentioned I've already suffered a crach in the game... that sort of pissed me off, and I had to turn down the PS3, other thing that I noticed was some... "Black bars" showing on the screen in a part of the game... can this just be a matter of overheating? (probably not, I played 12 hours straight of assassins creed and nothing happen).

Just been playing on it for 3 hours straight :p

    It's superb!, grips you!

Like VanTammen said.....your in a movie, do you do this?..do that?

    This is gonna sound geeky/sad/whatever....

You feel for the characters, you want to play more cause you want to know whats gonna happen next to them....

    10/10 FANTASTIC!

I've just been playing for a good few hours now and I'm hooked. It works really well and I've had no problems at all. When Ifirst loaded it up, it updated itseif so that may have fixed a few of the problems.

the biggest problem I've been having so far is with the "shake the controler up and down" command... I never get it when your supposed to do it, and I usually do it wrong... just killed 2 charecters this way just a couple of hours ago (And got so pissed that turned the PS3 Off...)

Just finished it, and all I can say is WOW!!!!

Don't worry I'm not going to ruin by saying how it ends, but I just wanted to say how bloody ace this game is.

My only gripe would be that it's pretty short compared to say Dragon Age Origins or Oblivion.

yes, it's pretty short game, my Girlfriend finished it in... 3 days (maybe 18 or 20 hours of gameplay).

did all your charecters survive? My reaction was WOW as well, and I'm going for it this week end!

since the game has multiple endings, I believe I still have a long way to go in to it...

now what I would like to see, more than a sequel, would be a prequel!

Got my copy last night and put it on with the intention of playing for half an hour before the footie came on. Ended up putting a three hour stint in!

It is soooo much better than the core mechanics imply, I think it's more like a 3D point and click adventure than anything else. The prologue wandering around the house reminded me a lot of Playstation Home! The bit in the mall is superbly done, really brings out a sense of acute panic!

I think most games are short compared to Oblivion... it's not often a game can suck 200+ hours from your life!!

Seeing how much praise it gets, I am about to give the demo a try. Does it spoil anything?
