Any dodgy Sci-Fi channel apocalyptic movies... So bad they're good.

Can't remember the name, but there was one where the sky caught fire. They solved the problem by detonating a nuke at the arctic.

I actually quite enjoy The Last Starfighter!

I bet no-one can find a sci-fi film truly as disasterous as Starcrash. it is literally soo bad, it becomes fantastic! You know things are bad when David Hasselhoff is the best actor in the film. Every so often I have film nights and when we all wanna have a real laugh, Starcrash goes on!

Avatar, Lord of The Rings, Transformers and all american modern bullshit that occupies us in theatres. I don't watch films in TV as I cannot stand it and switch the channel immediately when it starts bothering me, but also MacGyver was pretty piece of crap and all films the actor was acting in (Star Gate).

(I don't mean to derail the thread but I'm interested to hear more!)

Excellently refreshing to hear this point of view, you definitely do not hesitate to speak up, I like that!

So bohusk, what movies do you enjoy?

Starcrash is cool. I saw that at the cinema when it first came out! Went to see 'Humanoid' as well!

Oh that's it: I also like some Roger Corman stuff, especially the Carnosaur series!

The recent time I don't like movies at all as I am faced to brainwashing coming mostly from america. Try at least little bit take the dialogues and behaviour of characters in these films seriously and you become to conclusion that they must be insane if they mean it seriously. It's so cut of reality! I don't know if people in america talk each other the way as it is offered in those hollywood movies, but I'd gladdly won't believe.

The films I admired as a child:
Romancing The Stone, Ghostbusters 1, Eastwick Witches
    then later
    Terminator 2
    then last
    Save Private Ryan

I have to note that I do not watch films in TV, but on TV I standed:
    Predator, Total Recall

In TV I like commedies like
Bud Spencer, Terrence Hill, Pink Panther Strikes Back, Fantozzi, as these films are excellently translated to Czech and you have to love them.

On DVD I watch mostly original czech and slovak films that you don't know they exist, I think they are not dubbed to english either.

I completely agree, most American movies are complete and utter crap! And I live in the USA, so I should know. BTW People here do not talk like they do in the movies, that's just garbage that's made up over in Hollywoodland.

I only really know Pat & Mat, but I never knew them by that name, I only knew the show as "...A je to!" They are hilarious, and I love all the crazy machines they come up with to make things complicated for themselves, even though they are trying to simplify their life!

Critters! That's the one, thanks :-) I do dislike other scifi/fantasy movies but I'm just terrible with names, and I easily get over crappy movies. (but the movies I mentioned earlier are in my love/hate category).

A je to! is former name of this serie, after revolution it moved to another distributor that changed name to Pat & Mat. All episodes under name A je to! were made during socialism yet it's been broadcasted as a fairy tale for good night at 7:10pm. BTW "a je to!" could be translated as "well done!" or "at last done!".

I'll say I liked The Last Starfighter as well.
Some of my fave crappo Sci-fi movies are:

    Space pirates.
    Gremloids.
    Zone troopers.
    Event horizon.
    Enemy mine.
    Krull.
    Eliminators.
    Wraith.
    Morons from outer space.
    Killer clowns from outer space.
    Arena.
    Dreamscape.
    Fortress.
    Trancers.
    2019.
    Class of 1999.
    Cyborg.

....and there was a good one with Tom Selleck that was quite good called something like runners. It had some looney scientist who had an army of killer robot insects, and also kills people with heat seeking bullets.

Battle Beyond the Stars - Had that bloke who was in the Waltons as the lead. Classic 80's Sci-Fi.

Android - Same group as above, but a pretty good story line. The big name in this movie is Klaus Kinski...would urge anyone to see it.

Night of the Comet - Comet hits Earth, turns most of the population to zombies apart from a couple of valley girls...crud special effects, telegraphed storyline and a couple of hotties as the main protagonists - what else do you need for classic sci-fi!?

Forbidden World/Mutant - Depending on where you are in the world, the movie was called 1 or the other. No big names, but an alien that is a direct rip-off the bad mofo in Alien.

Those are the ones that instantly spring to mind...in their own way, classics.

I'm being a bit harsh on Android, but I've found that it's one of them movies that not many people have watched/heard of...

I like any of the '50s Sci-Fi movies...War of the Worlds, The Thing, Them etc, etc...

EDIT : reading Boozys post has reminded of a pretty naff/good space comedy called "Ice Pirates".

"Runaway" with kiss mainman Gene Simmons on bad guy duties.

How could i forget this, the first film I went to the cinema to see, my dad fell asleep, think he was only interested when Sybil Danning was on screen!

It had a great cast, Robert Vaughn, George Peppard (a drunk cowboy), John Saxon and a super score by James Horner he self-plagariased massively for Star Trek 2.

Not a bad film, in fact most of the ones mentioined so far are pretty high-brow 80's movies.

    Anyone seen Screamers 2 yet?
  • edited March 2010
    Great piccy JD!

Yeah, Battle Beyond the Stars was basically The Magnificent Seven set in space...Robert Vaughn played virtually the same character!

I would've mentioned this one, but I think it's literally been over 25 years since I've seen it? Wasn't it one of Channel 4's first late night movies on a friday or saturday night? Must've been about 1984 or something?

I tried to find a hooky copy on t'internet a while back put pulled a blank, maybe I'll try again later on.

EDIT: Well I've just got home from being out in the countryside, first nice day in ages, you wouldn't even think it'd been snowing less than a fortnight ago. Been posting all my messages today from my phone.

OK now I'm home I'm off for a snout, then it's time to check my nuts and various other nooks and crannies for ticks :D

I think it was...think that's where I saw it. Remember we had it lying around on VHS for yonks.

There's another film I remember vaguely...can't remember its name or any characters, but I remember the bad guy was a big black dude who fired lasers out of the end of his fingers/glove...wish I could remember more...I'll have to do some searching and trawling...

After reading this I instantly went through Tom "tiny" Listers filmography, but he doesn't seem to have major roles in any of the sci-fi movies he was in.

Next I'll check Mario Van Peebles, he's been in a load of shite sci-fi and action movies :D

I absolutely hate all sy-fi movies and their monster or giant bug of the week. I like many of the old sci-fi movies that were made 50 to 60 years ago but can't remember any particular one right now.

Ah! Sorry chap...when I said black dude I meant in a black suit a la Darth Vader or something...

I've looked through Wikipedias list of '80s sci-fi and can't find anything that triggers any memories...

Oh right....erm well searching Mario Van Peebles filmography reminded me of a cheesy yet strangely enjoyable one he was in called Solo.

Kind of like a black Universal soldier fighting against his creators in some amazon village or something like that.

I've seen it twice before but I only remember bits of it.

EDIT: Come to think of it it may be one of the ones I mentioned earlier Gremloids (aka hyperspace), as it is actually a Star Wars Spoof so the bad guy may be the one you're on about. He's called lord bucket head as well, which just screams out the quality of the film imo :D

I'm gonna see if I can download this now for defos, it's supposed to be super crap, but hilarious at the same time, but I haven't seen it for years so my memory is a little hazy?
