Artwork question
does this place archive spectrum artwork in addition to games, demos & apps?
I just wondered from a professional point of view. as a former 8 bit bit designer (yes c64) i was always very impressed with Dave Thorpe's Speccy artwork. to me at the time he was "the man".
If you dont archive artwork here can i suggest you do? it would be a loss to pixel art these days not to have this stuff to reference.

*Edit, actually WOS does log all the loading screens. Just take a look in the archive :)
You can watch David Thorpe's artwork for example here:
http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekadv.cgi?what=2®exp=Thorpe&yrorder=1&year=0&type=0&players=0&memory=0&language=0&country=0&licence=0&feature=0&publi=0&release=0&format=0&scheme=0&scorder=1&score=0&have=1&also=1&sort=1&display=2&loadpics=0
is there a suggestion box on here at all i could maybe file the "gallery" idea with?
it seems a great shame to lose quick access to old artwork or just be able to browse spectrum art by artist.
Steve
Edit ok thanks for the tip on how to search. however i still think a dedicated "gallery" would be good and in keeping with what this site seems to me all about.
also i would guess that thats not all the Thorpe art on the speccy. "Blue Max" by US gold is certainly missing for one :)
cheers.
Steve
edit 2: now thats weird u have a blue max screen but unsigned. and i would have put money on that being Thorpe from memory (which admittedly was 25 years ago)

That Blue Max screen style indeed looks similar to works by Thorpe, but I'm afraid that sheer similarity may be not enough.

it could add a few enties to your database.
strangely enuf i couldn't find Conan listed.
Steve
edit: this one u definitely need to see. http://binaryzone.org/davidthorpe.php
they have very different versions of street hawk and yie ar to your database.
hope these help fill in some blanks
There's no "Conan" for the Spectrum, other than a number of games produced by fans.
http://binaryzone.org/davidthorpe.php
this ones a great source.
loads of opportunities for database updates.
Steve
sayin that still gotta lot a luv for the frobush and Mark R Jones
This list has been processed; Mr Thorpe is now listed on several more titles.
As you can see in the database, there were 2 distinct versions of Street Hawk from Ocean (the other one has been selected now, since it matches).
Yie Ar Kung-Fu comes in 2 versions; 48K and 128K. The 48K version's screen gets shown, the 128K version's screen is listed with the entry.
If you're interested in loading screens, you could do worse than trying this browser.

Speaking of spectrum artwork, I saw an announcement on Speccynews a few days ago. I quote:
And if we're talking about loading screens, we had a topic about those considered to be among the best ones. Here's the link:
http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26571
Some of my favorites:

That Conan game indeed misses its entry in the database. Here is the loading screen:
ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/games-extras/MarkRJones/MiscGraphics/conan.png
And here is some describtion of it, it assumes that the title is "Conan the Barbarian". It's never released game.
http://www.tzxvault.org/time.htm
But it looks like the author is Mark Jones, not David Thorpe :-?
Tzxvault also mentions other never released games by Mark Jones which don't have their entries in WOS: Iron Sword and Ice Hockey.
And David Thorpe should be added to Up'n'Down
http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0010358
mentioned here:
http://www.crashonline.org.uk/17/onscreen.htm
During 1984 David worked part-time designing loading screens for Ocean, and is the man behind the loading screens for Decathlon, Raid Over Moscow, Conan, Zaxxon, and Up n?Down to name but a few
Uff, I guess, that's all
Okay, an entry has been created.
The title really is just "Conan", the inlays/adverts for the C64 and Atari versions confirm this, so both Wikipedia and MobyGames are wrong. :-)
(And so is the TZX Vault for that matter.)
Perhaps Mark can help us out? For now I added David Thorpe to the credits.
Both are unconfirmed working titles, so I didn't add them (yet).
Indeed. Now done. Thanks for your help!
Oh, thanks for that, I can replace that ropey scan in CRASH Online.
"The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable."
:-(
