Editing text in TZX files???

edited March 2010 in Games
Hi. Can anyone help. I wanna edit the names in FormulaOne. I have got ZX edit and tried to do it through there but its all in code. Does anyone know how I can do this just by replacing the text with text and re-saving out?

Cheers

If it's the CRL Forumla One then there's an editor you can use

Why not just load the tape as normal then use an emulator's debugger to find those pesky strings and replace them with your own and finally save it out as a snapshot/tape?

Be aware that you might want to keep the lengths of the new strings same as the original ones as changing the lengths might affect address dependent code. Pad the new names with spaces or something if the new string is shorter than the original.

Jp. Yeh thats the game and thanks for the tip. So this version is exactly the same as the original but just allows you change the drivers and team names? Is that right? Do you know if after entering the new names I can keep them stored so I dont have to retype them in again next time u play?

Im very new to all this emulator/debugger messing around with code stuff.
So im trying to understand what you`re saying.
For example ive loaded the formula one TZX file into zx-edit but i cant find (if there is one) an option to change the text. Any info would be great.

Cheers for the help though guys

Must admit, I only remember the editor being available - I've never played the game!

Looking through the editor instructions though, it does seem that you can customise what you want and this will be preserved...
    Instructions
    ------------
You must start with either the snap (tested a bit ) or the tzx
    (tested a bit less )

You can then continue playing them (saving snapshots en route) or...

press 'S' during a race to save your game at the end of that particular
race or wait until the end of a season. You can then load the resulting
save into any copy of Formula One thereafter. Of course, the editor
would be no more but you would have already made any alterations by
    this point.

Theoretically you only need to use the sna/tzx for just one race.

Formula 1 is a brilliant game, loved it even more when i discovered the highlights button (so the races are a bit shorter) and best of all how to gamble !

    Great game for its age

think ur on about a different game mate...there aint no gamblin or highlighths in CRL version

If you are running Windows, there is a much better editor available at the bottom of this page :-

    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/utilities.html

You can edit everything with that one, even assign your own personal numbers to the cars. Wow! :)

ps. and yes, there is gambling and highlights only in that version. See key instructions.

bandit. if its the formula one editor you are on about, another poster has suggested that. And i had a game on that last nite.

The only problem i got is that next time I play that game, i will have to retype all the names again. I am looking for a way to change all the names in the code somehow so that next time i load up my tzx file, the names will already be there.

Any ideas?...please put ti simply coz this kinda thing is a whole new world to me.

Cheers for the tips though guys. Was classic playing the game with my mates as the drivers. BRILLIANT !
