Yeah huge shame theres not a Speccy version, shame.

Should help get a fair few 'casual gamers' into the retro scene.

    was only joking

I use to have a 64 and 1541 drives with an action reply, plus I did work on a couple of 64 games. I've got a lotta love for the ol' bread bin, just not as much as I do for the speccy. Haven't tried the emu's yet but reports say it's a bit poo I thought it was worth it for the joystick.

"So, we've got this joystick, and we're going to give away a CD full of games. What do we put on it?"

"Well, there's this text adventure based on The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai..."

It's a very odd list, almost like someone went through an A-Z list and picked a few at random.

I bought one of those made by Speedlink, with an Amiga CD. The games in the CD are mostly freeware or PD (see the complete list here), and I've found that it is not the most ergonomic joystick to play with (but I've bought an Atari version for my speccys).

Currently, I'm looking for one Atari to USB adapter... at a reasonable prize. It seems that buying a cheap USB gamepad and "hack it" is far cheaper.
    I was there, too

My brother had that multicoloured microswitched joystick for his ST, and the constant clicking drove me nuts.

This is my personal favourite. The SEGA Master System Control Stick. It uses the conducting rubber cap type contacts you get in most game pads and remote controls. Very responsive and very quiet:

I did like my Spectravideo Quickshot 1 back in the day, but then I didn't have anything else. The base button on that was loud and clunky too. I never played the Hypersports games though - couldn't really see the point.

With a stick fixed to a solid base, like an arcade machine, I prefer the buttons on the right. But for holding a stick controller and still pressing the buttons with a thumb, this is better. With a spare cable Spex has found for me, I'll be able to wire up the second button to fire on a second joystick port.

I have the big ASCIIWare Playstation desktop joystick, but I usually use the original large analogue PS1 gamepad with my PC.

Does not fit on the ZX 48K or is there an adaptor?
It's a joystick with a USB plug, to plug straight into a PC. If you want want to plug it into a real 8-bit computer, you need to track down an old original one with the Atari-style 9-pin plug.

And of course on the Spccy 48K, you need a plug-in joystick interface. On the +2/+3, you'll need an adaptor for the weird wiring in the joystick sockets.

I know. But some weeks ago I have read that it is possible to plug a PC joystick with an adaptor to a real ZX 48K. But I can't find the text...

I guess older joysticks (15 pin connector) may work easily, but they're a little temperamental (calibration issues). Some resistors and transistors and you may design a circuit to convert resistance levels into digital output.

USB joysticks will need more work... a microcontroller with a program that emulates the drivers and those things. I think the software would be a nightmare.
