Yup, they sell it at my local Costcutter, and although it's expensive it's probably the best tasting lager I've tried.

My current favourite is Tyskie, a Polish lager I believe.

At the moment home brewed Ginger Beer (very moorish) and home brewed Wheat beer.

When i'm in Malta I drink the local lager, Cisk, which is a very tasty quaffing lager, if you see it in your local offie its worth trying.

If you like flavoured beers try some of the Belgium brewed fruit lagers, you should really drink them with a meal like a wine, a different beer with each coarse of the meal.

A Belgium banquet of a dozen dishes each with its own beer is a night of your life you wouldn't consider wasted if your a beer fan. (As opposed to a normal pi**head)

Yes. I first tried it in La Rochelle last year, I then found it in Super U, where they sold at least 3 slightly different varieties of it. My favourite version was the first that I had, which was the tequila and lime version.

I think I've seen it in Morrisson's, but have never bought it here, I think it is something to be enjoyed best in a warmer climate.

Don't believe it. Tyskie really is a Polish lager.

Offy by us flogs it for ?1.40 a bottle! Had a few bottles last weekend funily enough. Quite sweet though, but very refreshing.

I used to collect 'odd' lager/beer bottles years ago and my fave was always 'Satan' just because of the label http://www.satanbeer.com/frame1e.html

Kwak (not sure if I speeled that right?) and Delirium Tremens were quite interesting.

Both tasted a bit tinny due to the high alchohol content, the Delirium bottle actually had a pink elephant on the label which I found quite amusing.

Cheaper options you probably don't see anymore from the wonderous 2.50 for 4 cans range are Baltic, Viborg Pils, and Goldmine (this stuff got took of the shelves for being a bit dodgy I think, it was definitely a different type of drunkeness you got from it, probably anti freeze in it or something :D).

I actually think Tyskie is one of the poorer mainstream Polish Lagers. Lech or Okocim for me.
I stole it off a space ship.

Personally I find Lech a bit rough around the edges, must be an acquired taste :D

It is very mainstream, but I do like a bottle of Leffe.

The Peruvian Cusque?a that ASDA sells dirt cheap is really nice, but I really love Mythos although I've never seen that sold anywhere but Greece.

A pub near me used to have that on draft. It was kind of weirs how they served it. They first had to rinse the glass out with ice cold water (using a special thingy in the drip tray) before pulling the pint into oversized wine glass shapped glasses. It was quite nice and sometimes they put a slice of lemon in it too. Rather gassy if I remember right too!

Love that stuff. Been quite easy to get over here for about 10 years. Used to bring cases of it back to blighty for my mates, but don't need to bother now they can get it in Morrisons. :)

Apparently there's also a red coloured Desperado's sold in France (my Dad saw it in a Hypermarket on one of his travels). No idea what it tastes like though.

If you enjoy ales, lagers and beer you simply ahould visit this wonderous web-site and purchase from them:

    http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/acatalog/

Huge range, rapid delivery (my 2 orders were with me within 36 hours, one within 24) and not too bad on the pricing front. Of course, they do sell some expensive stuff too, but well worth it if like me you enjoy fewer, stronger beers (>9% abv) rather than gnat's piss lager! Check out some of the American micro-brewery beers too, excellent.

Best supermarket recommendation at the moment - BrewDog Punk IPA - mindbendingly good

I always wanted to hunt down a few bottles of 'Paps Blue Ribbon' as that was what Frank Booth drank in Blue Velvet, it had a great effect on him that I wouldn't have minded myself. Never could track any down though, and on reflection would probably be some sort of 3% belly ache lager. Like Hoffmeister :D

Blue ribbon is absolute pisswater, and for what you get it's wayyyyyyyyy overpriced.

Hmmm...never seen it like that. My local Wetherspoons always has it bottled though.

It is quite gassy which is why I can only ever really have 1 on a night out...if I have any more I have to "disguise" my personal tunes to whatever is on the juke box!!

In Belgium all beers are served in their own special glasses.

Can you still buy a huge tin of Watneys Red Barrel? My Dad always got 4 tins of Pale Ale every Xmas and it was still there by February. What the hell is Pale Ale?

Go into a CIU if there are any left these days and order a pint of IPA, then you'll realise why it's still there 2 months after christmas. Think nasty cheap bitter, and go a couple of notches lower.

The only beer I think worse than Pale Ale is McEwans Best Scotch which is bloody awful.

Funny thing is here in the US they sell IPA at quite a high price like it's something special

One day outside Lewisham shopping centre, ooooh must have been mid to late 80's, I was stopped by a woman seeking men to consumer test a new lager. Obviously I went along because it was one of those super strength brands, I being quite adept at necking tramp juice, what a great free gig! It turned out to be two new brands, SUPER BREW which tasted like aircraft fuel and KESTRAL SUPER. I had two tins of each and requested the mini-cab that was offered at the start of the test. I was pissed up bad ass. One guy passed out after three tins of Kestral and messed his trousers before they could get him in a chair.

I would like to know where I can buy a crate of Kestral Super and suspect it may only be available in an off licence in Doncaster that has metal grills protecting the till.

I wonder what the hell they were thinking - testing strong lager on southern shandy drinkers? LOL ;)
  • edited April 2010
Haha That's a cracking story that is

Shame the only ever thing I got pulled in for by one of those market people was to taste test Tango, and one time some choccy bars.

So we get pop and chocs in the north and you get turbo strength lager down south. Must have been a mix up with the adresses :D
