Is it just me, or is the auto-aim a bit temperamental? Doesn't seem to lock on every time.

I don't have auto-aim. I assume I haven't got that far to get it? I've just done the mission to obtain the lassoo.

I'm impressed with the amount of side missions you can do. These can be activated by many things; eg I shot a bird in flight and it initiated a related challenge. Another one was started by shooting a member of a certain gang. It unlocked a new outfit, the gang's outfit. You don't get new outfits straight away - you have to collect all the scraps of them to complete them. Outfits can help improve aspects your gameplay, eg Dead Eye meter regeneration.

I like the journal, it's well useful for keeping track of stuff, missions, challenges and the like.

One thing that cheeses me off (and it's the same with other R* games) is the small crappy fonts they use when displaying messages on-screen. I have a 32" telly and still have trouble reading them sometimes. Still, they're available to view later in the journal.

Seen some funny stuff whilst out roaming, including a guy shouting at his donkey, and another one who got off his horse, and had a piss before getting on again and continuing.

PS3 version thus far is stable, not run into any bugs in the couple of hours I've been on it (I'm presuming every1 else is playing the 360 version). Quite impressed.

I think I got the last copy available in Wolverhampton City Centre at lunch time. Went around all of the game shops, except for the largest one (figured no point), HMV, etc, and none of them had it in. Was walking back and thought, sod it, I'll give Game a try, joined the queue and got the last copy! Got it for ?20 trading in Heavy Rain.

You start off with auto-aim; during the shooting tutorial (when you're shooting the rabbits), it tells you that holding left trigger will auto-aim at the nearest target. But it seems to be a bit hit and miss for me.

I've just got the lasso too, so next I'm gonna try and do some bounty hunter missions (I'd done a couple already, but I decided not to do anymore until I got the lasso... you get a lot more money for bringing them in alive).

yeah the auto aim is a bit off, but you get the 'x' aiming thing on the videos later on i think, or maybe i only noticed it later on. :p

There's auto-aim? I must have missed that message....could have done with it in the last mission I played...

Was playing some more multi-player, and got stuck respawning beside guys who were 5 levels above me with bigger guns.. :( ...They just kept shooting me over and over again...*Sniff!*...

So I went to shootout mode and had a lot of fun trying to stay alive in the standoffs and the ensuing bloodfest.... :D

horse riding is an arse, in fact ive never come across a game where it has been any good.

The horse riding in Assasins Creed 2 works pretty well and don't forget Zelda OOT. I never had any trouble with Epona :-P

You should try Shadow of the Colossus.

The horses name is Agro, and man does he live up to it, he's a right awkward git!

nah, ASC2 is just as bad, you have to have it square on to make a jump otherwise it gets stuck.

yeah the OOT, is prolly the best. but that only cos epona was a quality horse. i love the way you met him as a baby then he became your best friend.

the problems with horses is that they walk off. they need to have better AI too. like when you ride them into a wall they just carry on walking on the spot, then you spin them around on the spot. which just looks daft.

although in read dead redemtion you can jump from it onto a train. which is class.

I'm actually getting used to the way the horses control in RDR....and can now shoot and lasso things from them pretty easily. If you hitch them to a post it keeps them from legging it as well, although they seem to be able to unhitch themselves when you whistle at them from a distance...:-?

The further I'm getting into the game, the better it's all becoming...just like with the GTA games...

I'm enjoying it so far. Although, I still don't like the jumping action (he jumps like all the GTA characters). I've not really done much to be honest though. I've got the lasso and I think I've finished a side mission involving the hills by "Hanging Rock". Killed one bounty and cleared a canyon of outlaws and that's about it. I'll have a proper go tommorow when I have more time.

I also thought I'd look at the multiplayer, but I had no luck with that. I got disconected from my first session due to "connection dificulties with other players connections" and then I waited 10 minutes for another conection, but gave up. Another one for tommorow I think!

Anyone Joined the Rockstar club thingy? I got as far as registering an e-mail address, but wasn't sure if I could use any e-mail address, or the one that's linked to my Xbox Live account?

What's happening with you in multi-player is exactly the thing that the update is meant to have fixed...but they're still working on a new patch. I signed into multi yesterday with no problems at all for the duration, so it is worth keeping trying though...

And for social Club, I think it has to be the one linked to Xbox Live, so as it can read your stats....

Starting to spot little bugs in the single player game. Just had a random side mission where i had to return a stolen horse to its owner, took him the horse, he thanked me for returning it, and as he said that I got a "you failed to return the horse" message. Something similar happened when I was trying to tame the stallion for Bonnie, the game prompted me to get off my horse and onto the stallion, but when I got off my horse it failed the mission, saying that I had lost the herd!?

Oh, and there's a funny glitch at Thieves Landing. The taxi coach keeps hopping up and down on the spot. It continues to do so when I get a lift in it too.

Still loving it though, despite all the strange bugginess.

yeah ive noticed those things too. the horse return thing happened at thieves landing, but i think he horse just ran away.

the cart jigging is quite common i've noticed.

i also kept failing a mission cos it said i was breaking the law, but was following the instructions.

i will get online with it and see if the download fixes anything.

ive noticed that most of the acheivements are secret, i like this, it stops me reading them and trying to get them instead of playing the game.

I didn't get those quirks with my game, although I haven't yet got to Thieves' Landing, so I might get that one.

I have had serious problems trying to get online though. Every time I've tried to go into Free Roam, it says I have been disconnected due to problems with other players connecting. I have applied the available patch. I've tried about 8 times in total. Apparently, it's due to R*'s servers facing overwhelming demand, and they are working on it.

If anyone's thinking of getting the "Golden Guns" DLC I'd advise against it. It only converts the *first* rifle and pistol you get in the game to golden, giving you increased fame with each kill. When you upgrade your weapons to more powerful ones, they will NOT be golden. Personally I'd prefer more powerful weapons to ones that grant additional fame.

Back with the game: I've just done the first missions with West Dickens and Seth. What a couple of characters they are :-) PMSL @ the Dickens mission with his snake oil salesman routine.

I've noticed loads of weird glitches as well, including one poor chap whose head was poking up out of the ground and who was trying to run away without success...

Most of them are quite funny as opposed to game breaking though...I did have a really weird thing happen though! I was riding my horse through the desert, when it bucked up and threw me off...Marston then decided to run away from the horse in the opposite direction in a sort of scared way, and I couldn't do anything with the controller to stop him....It was all a bit freaky, and I've no idea what the hell it was all about! A glitch...or wilderness terror?? :-?

Been playing this game far too much and although I've been doing side missions and stuff as well, I'm about to go south across the river....:)

Nah, I've been online with it and the patch hasn't sorted any of the single player glitches, well, not that cart one anyway... I just saw one of the bouncing carts fly right up into the air and land on top of the saloon in Armadillo. Nice.

Just had a great moment, hog-tied a horse rustler and left him on the train tracks. Splat!!

lol, ive yet to do that, although if you ride next to the train you can jump on, i did that, climbed on the roof ran to the front and shot the driver. unfortunatly you can drive the train, which would have been sweet. :-P

ive just gone into mexico so ive started seeing the nuns. ;)

shame the game has glitches but non of them seem to break it as of yet, im fearful of checking out known faults in case it give the plot away.

Oooh, I've gotta get on the train to do the next of my sharpshooter challenges (shoot five birds from a moving train), so I'll have a go of that myself soon.

I haven't been down south yet, but I was approached by a nun who gave me a rather useful crucifix.

yeah thats how i found out.

i got that crucifix too, but i got it in the south, i thought you got it there, but it might be tied into your honor or fame.

Yeah, I think it's when your honour reaches a certain level... it happened around when I reached max honour.

Looks good... So - what's the consensus? PS3 or XBOX360 version?
  • edited May 2010
Well I've just experienced my first bug that required me to reload a save. I was trying to jump onto the train while it was moving, got hit by it, and then all of a sudden I was standing way up in the sky (couldn't walk around up there, I was just rooted to the spot). I also noticed that while I was chasing the train, there were passengers floating out of the back of it, still seated. It looked rather funny, actually.

Given that Vampyre hasn't spotted any bugs/glitches in the PS3 version, and I've spotted loads in the 360 version, I'd go for the PS3.

Not just this game but from what I hear about the next gen consoles in general I think I'll stick to PS2.

The purchase of the Wii also fills me with confidence when I see stuff like this it might be the underdog but at least the people who program the games for it can program a game that doesn't **** up the moment you throw some stress it's way :p

You say that, but MadWorld, one of my fave games on the Wii is full of glitches as well. I was stuck on one of the boss fights for a while because I was actually getting trapped inside of scenery during the fight.

I've also encountered this glitch more than once as well:

  • edited May 2010
That may be an ingame glitch but the way it seems to be struggling to load stuff in it looks more like his Wii that's fu....cocked up ;)

Or his disc has a scratch on it?

May not be the case but hey who knows?

Nah, like I said, exactly the same stuff happens on my copy. To be fair though, it is the only game on the Wii out the ones I've got that has screwed up on me like that, and it doesn't seem to happen every time. Shame really, because it's a great game asides from that.

Bit pissed off that I haven't been able to get Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox 360 yet as well....NO shops in Liverpool City Centre had it...problem with the delivery apparantly. They had a fair few PS3 ones about but I aint got a PS3. My local Asda won't even be stocking it for a while because of some strange disagreement with the supplier they've had.

I've got a copy winging it's way to me from play.com now, should've just done that in the first place. :p

Well, it's done a couple of weird things with me, this game.....

Twice now when I've been about to kill the last guy in a challenge in Free Roam, it's knackered up...once it done the "connection issues" thing, and the second time it strangely moved me from one game into a totally different free roam!?!?!?

I did notice that 2 people from my friends list were in the 2nd Free Roam, so maybe it was just trying to be helpful, but it really feckin' annoyed me!

In single player I've had to reload a couple of times, once due to it freezing when trying to load a new area and once due to it getting me stuck in a bit of scenery, but all that the single player woes are stuff I've experienced in every GTA game since 3, so they don't bother me as much....

Still having fun though....liking the different titles thing in multiplayer too. Kinda similar to the title system in Streetfighter 4 (you unlock new titles for doing challenges, or gaining ranks,etc.)...I helped a posse out in a gang hideout without actually joining them and earned myself the right to be called a "Shining Knight"...:D

are you even playing the single player? sounds like you are playing the multiplayer all the time.

i hav eto finish the game before i venture online with it, scared of the plot being gave away, or seeing weapons or areas ive yet to find.

as for games breaking on the wii, i had problems with 'carnival games'.
