What firewall should I use for bit torrent use?
I'm currently using Zone Alarm as a firewall, but it is notorious for interfering with bit torrent usage, so I'm looking to use a different, free, software firewall. What firewall do you use with your bit torrent Windows PCs?
Also, what bit torrent clients do you use, and what good bit torrent search engines do you recommend, and do you have any tips for bit torrenting?
Thanks for any answers.

Client: uTorrent (small footprint and quick)
Most importantly is a blocker for unwanted IP's (movie companies, etc) and I use PeerBlock for that. It's a pain as it blocks Steam IP's, but it's only a right-click away to allow it through.
uTorrent 1.8.5 gets my vote aswell. I haven't tried any of the newer versions of it (I think it's past v2 now). It rarely gets above 10MB of memory usage.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

As Vampyre said, use a blocker to block unwanted IPs. I also use Peerblock.
As for firewalls, I just use the one on my router and the built-in Windows 7 one.
In the past i've had the windows firewall which has been useless, 'lurgies' have got onto my machine easily. McAfee also failed me the other month so now i'm on AVG. Got a free 30 day trial but i'll buy it once it runs out.
I dont use torrents anymore (used to), i download a ton of us shows etc and some of these websites have code in them to try and install stuff on my machine, McAfee didnt pick diddley squat up but AVG so far has been superb.
I like free things as the next man but when it comes to firewalls etc i've been let down in the past with the freebies, so AVG it is for me now.
Sounds to me you've been using a crappy AV rather than a crappy firewall. I use Avira, Avast and the new Microsoft AV on Windows 7 across the various PC's at home and never had any trouble. Windows Firewall is as you say more or less useless, but Comodo is pretty good.
Before this was with McAfee, only switched to AVG the last few weeks. Havent had any problems yet, i go to a rapidshare site now and a popup comes on saying its stopped a script from working, whereas on McAfee it didnt seem to detect that.
The firewall/real-time scanner seems far better in the latest AVG than McAfee. There might be a lot of good free ones out there but after two major crashes now (first one cost me a bit to fix, second one the top blokes at www.bleepingcomputer.com patiently helped and fixed it - gave them a decent donation).
I have to download my us shows ! Cant stop ! Had problems with torrents - fake files/viruses/dodgy key.exe's etc, rapidshare files i find better but a quite a few websites now seem to try to install lurgies.
Just been very impressed with AVG and i'll be buying the full suite once my trial runs out for sure.
torrent client - utorrent (although later versions are supposed to be dodgy and get banned from certain sites for being dodgy im still using 1.8.4
av - avast
anti spyware - malwarebytes antimalware
i used to swear by avg and spybot but they let me down bigtime when i got a tough as a nut trojan, malwarebytes and avast saved me...eventually, still took some doing
I download all the US shows too but never had a problem with my setup. The best place for the shows I've found to be "eztv" with an ".it" at the end of the URL ;-)
