Turn on?

edited June 2010 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
Heya,

I just got a ZX Spectrum+, but I have no idea how to turn it on >.> The instruction booklet only says how to program stuff, not how to get the thing to work. Also, is there any frequency in particular at which it works? My telly only adjusts frequencies manually, so it's a real bummer having to find it v.v

Thanks,
Shmuk L.

[EDIT]

There's a small button to the side, but I don't know if it does anything

bugger, you added this bit after i posted my reply.

thats a small reset switch, there wasnt a reset on the original 48ks, you just had to unplug the power lead, with the + they added a small reset switch

    >.>

Anyways, I'm afraid I have run into another problem v.v

I've been using my Spectrum to play some games, and they all work fine. However, I bought a copy of Tetris (Mirrorsoft, 1987), and it doesn't work. The other games I got from the same seller (Jet set willy and Manic Miner) work just fine, and they assure me that it was working before I bought it. Anyways, here are the symptoms:

After typing LOAD "" and pressing play on my cassette player, I get the white square on an alternating red and cyan background, and occasionally, it gives that hypnotic barred background like this:

    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################
    #############################

And occasionaly, after that display, I get the blue and yellow hypnotic screen as with other loading screens, but it seems to disappear after a fraction of a second.

    Thanks!

Tried that, and it only managed to screw up the games that worked =\

Luckily, I managed to put it back in place.

what version of tetris is it?

it might just be a none standard loader.. hence the bars.. you did let the tape run thru?

^ That tetris. And I also don't get the loading screen shown on that page either >_<

    [edit]

And yeah, I let the tape run through all the way a few times, but then it just alternated cyan and red after the flashy bars appeared a couple of times

I assume you have tried adjusting the volume?

is it just that one tape that doesn't work?

can you load tzx files from your PC okay?
  • edited June 2010
Never tried that... Only old-fashioned cassettes. Sorry I'm a complete zx noob, are there tutorials on this site? =P

Okay, so I managed to get my hands on another copy, and now, the title screen appeared, but it gives a high-pitched SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and then it gets stuck =\

Oh, and sorry for the double post.
