spectrum hacking master

edited August 2004 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
several years ago when i lived in bath i did some volunteer work in a blind persons charity. anyway, one of the other volunteers was a guy who was a retired bench technician or something. he apparently did some amazing hardware hacks to his sinclairs, like having switchable bioses, and pc floppy drives and what-not. also some very good cracks and patches to games and word processors.. he pretty much rewrote one of the word processors i think.
anyone know who i mean?

probably still laughing about the retro success of his c-5. or laughing even harder at alan's insistance on selling that e-mailer phone with spectrum emulator (the only good bit about it)

I was gonna buy wanna them emailers, the new version 2`s 30 quid, (God Im advertising for Amstrad, haha) then noticed the small print.

It`s gotta stay connected to your phone line, and HAS to make a dial up call every day to check for mail, and contact AmServe for God knows what reason.

I`d planned to have one just for the cute screen, clock, noted etc etc and NEVER connect it (Cos even downloaded games are on a 10,20 or 30 day timer, and get wiped)

I`d even downloaded the 17 Meg user manual Pdf, just out of interest.

    Shit, Im ranting... sorry.

That bloke sounds very interesting, the one who was just hacking away, rewriting stuff etc etc

Was he well known? or a local character round your way? I know someone like that on the Riscos platform, then he got that way with Windows and PC`s.

    brainy sod, :)

those emailer things are the stupidest idea ever. ive no idea whatsoever why he insists on pursuing it.. despite everyone around him holding their heads in their hands and sighing.

hacking old computers is cool. i knew a german group who made a SID add-on for the plus/4

    madness!

Cool, Quazar does one for the SAM, but mines bust :(

I still reckon I prefer the AY (especially the new and newish demo music, and AY-Riders) to SID, although I never had a caughcommodorecaugh so am still `checking out` the music of it...

Emailers... HA !!! Oh how we laughed...

If it had JUST a spectrum emmulator, that we could ACTUALLY use and code on then he`d probably sell loads...

But hasn`t got a clue, tut tut... Im surprised we haven`t heard anything about someone doing something so yo can bang games onto it from a PC

    *_+
