Galaxian anyone?

edited June 2010 in Games
So who played Galaxian (both in the arcade and on the Speccy) back in the day?

I've just reviewed Atarisoft's Speccy effort. It's not bad and plays quite well - I don't think I ever played this version back then.

Galaxian

You can't get much more retro than Galaxian anyway. :p

The arcade version is one of the best and very known classic videogames. It was the first arcade videogame I've ever saw, 1979 or 1980, I think.

The spectrum version is maybe the closest to the original arcade version, even the sound is good for a 16/48K game, not the great original arcade sound! The graphics are OK.

I've played two galaxian clones back in the day (I first played the atari version thanks to WoS): the Artic one and Galakzions by Mikro-Gen, which is my fave although the graphics are not so good. I played it a lot in the 80's.

Thanks Juan - I'll have a look at the Mikro-Gen one - I've never played that version before.

I've only really played it as mini-games during the loading of various NAMCO games on the Playstation.

Though I absolutely love Galaxian3 - the huge room-sized 6-player 3D shooter. There were two versions of that with different levels and they were both amazing fun.

Loved it in the arcades....don't think I've ever played it on the speccy though. Might give it a go later...

Love this game. Prefer Galaga on NES though, but it's a classic and proves you don't need super fancy graphics to get an awesome game.

Artic's Galaxians on the ZX81 was the business. The Spectrum version wasn't bad either.

As for the arcade original, it'd be a toss up between it and Asteroids for my favourite game of the 70s.

I agree with the previous posters that Artic Galaxians is excellent, especially considering how early in the Speccy's life it was.

The graphics are very similar to the arcade version (except for the colour and yellow big aliens at the top of the screen).

Thanks to Juan F Ramirez for suggesting Galakzions by Mikro-Gen. It's great!

    I've reviewed it here

For a 1983 game it's good. I prefer the Atarisoft official version - but this one runs it close!

Galaxians from Artic was the first Spectrum game I ever played - so it is a special one for me!
