He is a very caring guy he was always interested in my work and very supportive, as Swainy has said, I too had talks with him about how bad he was really feeling on the lead up to this and it was clear that he was very ill. I was intending not to post again, but this is the exception to the rule, as he deserves to be acknowledged at this terrible time. My hopes and prayers go out to him and his family at this time of sadness.

He has always tried helping out when he could which was why I've always had plenty of time for him. He hates beat em ups but he has always been willing to help out with the Double Dragon project.

Terrible news. I still hope that Jonathan will recover. I'm not very religious but in the moments like this I'll be praying for him.

I never know what to say in these occasions. I always feel a bit hollow, and my grasp of the English language seems to be inadequate.

I know a bit how it feels. My mother died in her 40s, same kind of thing - illness, intensive care, it looked like she was recovering, then suddenly she went downhill and we got to the hospital less than an hour before she died. It was extremely hard on my grandfather (who's still alive), who had to see her daughter die, when I'm sure he was expecting to outlive her. It's just a huge rollercoaster of extreme emotions, one day ecstasy because she was seemingly starting the road to recovery, and the next intense sorrow as suddenly you're told she'll never wake up. I saw other friends go through the same last year, someone at our glider club who was recovering well from cancer caught a cold that most of us would shrug off and suddenly it killed him. The grief is just overwhelming when someone you expected to be in your life for many years to come is gone all of a sudden.

I just hope that perhaps the doctors have it wrong, perhaps he'll recover, you always have *hope*. As beanz says, everything crossed.

I haven't known Joffa as long as some of you other guys on here, but we have shared a few jokes and PMs and he was really pleased that I liked most of the games he worked on. He's a top bloke and I was hoping to get a chance to meet him at some point.

This is absolutely horrible news. I'm praying for a miracle along with everybody else. :(

    I got shocked...

Hope a miracle happens. We cannot believe to miss someone like him.

I'm really sorry to read that. I just hope a miracle happens and we can read him writting his stories again.

I'm really sorry to hear this news. Like everyone else, I hope he somehow manages to turn a corner and make a recovery.

I don't know him at all well, but in the few e-mail exchanges we had he was always really helpful and genuinely humble about his great programming achievements. And I still chuckle about the fact he referred to me as a nutter on his website for taking the time to map Pud Pud.

Im devastated by this news, took me 5 hours to even post and totally not suprised by how many people have said what a lovely guy jof is, don't know him very well and not spoke for about a year, but as has been he's a really really really lovely man and I too feel like bubbling :(. When a few of us were playtesting Saucer a few years ago I used to ask him questions about coding and gameplay mechanics and he always answered, even though I'm a bit of a rambler, was totally shocked at his total lack of any big headedness or ego, massively in fact, even offered to send me a book of Special FX business cards and when he couldn't find them sent a book of his business cards from his Software Projects days without me asking, was totally blown away... jof, as you said a few times when I pestered you "Just make it playable", please pull through and become playable again, we all ****in' love you dude, your one heck of an individual !

Really sorry to hear this. Hope that he can pull through this. Place just wouldn't be the same without him.

I have been checking this thread for weeks, waiting for some good news and then this...
Whatever happens Joffa we would like you to know that you brought us so much fun and love, in our childhood, our teenage years and up until now. Thank you so much, legend!
    Please, get well soon!

Terrible news :( I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. There is a black cloud over WOS - But I'm sure he knows he's got the entire forum routing for him. Please get well soon.

Really sad to hear the news. I'll never forget meeting Joffa at Byte Back last year.
  • edited June 2010
    Really, really shit news.

Never met him, barely conversed with him, but he is the character which epitomises the Spectrum and WoS. I miss him already.

    Gutted.

Awful news. I've been checking this thread expecting to hear that Jof would be on the mend, and back on WoS with his unique posts. A big shock to hear that things are so grim. Hope he pulls through.

We are both so very upset to hear this and I can't begin to express how much impact his antics have made throughout my life. From the games themselves in the 1980s, to more recent and personal communication.

I Had just been watching his you-tube vids not 10 minutes ago, and Patti said for me to give him her bestest wishes... and then I come on here only to read this terrible news. She's having a bit of a sob now.

Don't know what else to say.
Miss you Joff. Miss you lots.

    how sad. RIP Frobush.

This is a terrible thing to happen to such a nice and caring guy, who was always more interested in other people and their lives, than in his own achievments. He was always ready with praise and a kind word, which was heartfelt and sincere and the last to take a compliment so easily. The persona which he presented to WOS was to amuse himself and others and it was a privilage to have been part of both sides of the picture. I never got to meet him in person, which is a shame, as I know we would have got on brilliantly, which I don`t say lightly, as I don`t take to most people.

I truly feel like I have lost a family member today, as I am sure a lot of others do too, In this mad, bad world, another spark of kindness and hope, has sadly burned out.

You have made me laugh out loud, and today, also cry:cry:

Goodbye my friend, you will be greatly missed !
Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........
