Joffa, thank you so much for all the hours I've spent playing your games, and the gladness I felt when I found you on this forums, planning new projects, and helping everybody ask you for help about spectrum programming.
Well, I've kept quiet up till now because I never know what to say in these situations, but I reckon the world has just become a heavier and sadder place.
When I joined the forum, Jof PM'd me out of the blue which started a long running exchange of PM's that had me quite literally in stitches.
At the start I didn't realise who I was speaking with, but when I found out it did make me think "Christ - I'm speaking with a legend here!!" - and he was a brilliant bloke on top of it all.
And, to me, that was Jof - a total bloody loony that was always willing to help out when he could, or point you in the right direction when he couldn't. He was also responsible for lots of great gaming moments from when I was a kid and he, and people like him, were probably responsible for me ending up being a Software Developer.
Condolences to his family and friends, their loss must be bordering on the unbearable right now...:-(
Joffa was a wonderful person and well deserving of a tribute on the in memoriam page. Who would like to help out writing one?
perhaps we could all submit a tag line mine would be from a pm he sent me during a time that he was receiving several digs about saucer in a thread I'd started and had locked as a flame war started
I apologised for what had happened as it wasn't my intention to start an argument, he said he didn't blame me for what happened
'I like your posts they make me laugh and they think I'm mad' - compliment indeed from some one who was a master of the some of the maddest posts that tickled me
You mentioned his Saucer, Binman. Maybe it's not the best moment to talk about it now, but maybe his family could be contacted about it. It would be a shame if the last and probably 100% completed game of Jonathan was lost because somebody decides to format, sell or trash his harddisk now.
Damn, I still can't believe it. I didn't know him personally, but I really feel like I have lost someone close
We are both so very upset to hear this and I can't begin to express how much impact his antics have made throughout my life. From the games themselves in the 1980s, to more recent and personal communication.
I can only echo this. It's very sad news and he's a huge loss to the community...I think that through his games, personal commiunication and antics on here, the majority of us had a lot of affection for the guy whether we'd actually been lucky enough to meet him in person or not.
I feel like not only has a huge chunk of our childhood gone, but we've all lost a good friend as well.
I'm sitting here stunned, RIP Joffa, you made us all smile with your WoS posts. You will be sorely missed here.
I can't believe it, he was only 44? 45 years old? Gone before his time.

Jof.
I have no idea if the link is still active it's a house mix he did called Scooba Dooba , funny thing is he knew I didn't like House Music but he sent me that link anyway. I actually listened to it as well, it wasn't that bad. I think he vanished before I got a chance to tell him that? :(
About 70% of his other PMs to me which I no longer have were proof that beyond the nutter on the forum he was a caring person, his main concern most of the time was if he'd ever offended me with his token "Sod off!" line. I always told him he hadn't and we were on the level, but whenever we had our comedy arguments he would often PM me afterwards with what seemed like genuine concern for my feelings. I always told him things like it'll take a lot more than that to offend me.
I don't think Jof could've actually ever offended me, weither intentional or accidental his sense of humour was comic genious, and I for one am really going to miss him
Completely gutted - not even saw the build-up as I had not read the post where Mr.Hat wrote that Joffa was asleep and drifting away, so logging on to find this is very saddening. Another one joining the unfortunate ranks of those who were taken way before their time was due ...
Tom-Cat, this is a nice screenshot. This is almost asking for a tribute game to Mr. Smith. I'm sure our community would be able to cook something up in Jonathan's honour. And whoever writes up the "in memorandum" - it would not be complete without a (good-natured) poke at the saucer malarkey, after all it became a running gag and integral part of our banter with Joffa here on WOS, and what with him being a humorous fella I'm sure it would be in his style.
Well, you have to personalise this book for me! You have to sign it and take the piss out of me! So that when I die, people will read what you say and laugh! LOL!
Made me chuckle, anyway. I never did get to send him a book, because he insisted that I wait until the deluxe Saucer set came out and to send it to him when he'd sent me that.
Rest assured, I would have written something suitably funny.

Maybe you could still do so and send it to his family to show how we at WOS care ... after all, he used to spend an awful lot of time here so the mutual appreciation shows.

Joffa, thank you so much for all the hours I've spent playing your games, and the gladness I felt when I found you on this forums, planning new projects, and helping everybody ask you for help about spectrum programming.
Rest in Peace.
When I saw two pages of updates after my last post I feared the worst.
When I joined the forum, Jof PM'd me out of the blue which started a long running exchange of PM's that had me quite literally in stitches.

That's awful news...

RIP Joffa. :( You'll always be with us in spirit.
Didn't know the guy, but I'm truly gutted.
RIP Frobush. Legend.
frobush: "Don't ever change!
Jof."
Me: "What do ya mean Mr Smifff?"
frobush: "Well, just that. Most people change over time, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst - for whatever reasons.
Just don't change. That's not an order or a demand.
Jof."
This was after that Byte Back day where I'd driven him to and from Manchester.
